Yeah, but the risk is still infitesimal. I don't really take issue with under-30s not taking the vaccine - they just need to realise they won't be that age forever, and that they may wish to travel at some point.ali baba wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 12:48 pmIf you're under the age of 30 your risk of dying from the Coronavirus is lower than the risk of dying from the Oxford vaccine according to UK health authorities.Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 9:27 am"Mr Morrison pointed out that the risk of the blood clots was only about four to six in a million.
This is far lower than the risk of clots among people taking the contraceptive pill (one in 2,000) or travelling on planes (one in 4,656 flights lasting over four hours). In fact, up to 30% of people who have COVID-19 will get thrombocytopenia, making the risk from the virus much higher"

It gets more clusterfuckery each day because there has not been common sense since day 1. It started with inadequate risk assessment (risks 10x exaggerated) and all “decisions” were panic-driven ever since. Face saving, not admitting mistakes have been rampant and it’s a sure way to dig oneself into a deeper hole. Fixing all this mess will take years longer than if governments did absolutely nothing. Many people are dumb still thinking government is helping them. This world is hopeless.
Often doing nothing is the best managerial approach when it comes to nature.

Well, haven't you just revealed yourself as an obedient little statist. Is that the sort of future you want for your progeny?Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 1:49 pmYeah, but the risk is still infitesimal. A world where people are considered bio-terrorists and their "privileges" are revoked unless their operating system is up-to-date...
You are the enemy and you can take your vials of magic potions, your talismans (masks) and your ritualistic social distancing and shove them up your ass.

What the? I simply stated that those who aren't vaccinated may have trouble travelling overseas. This comes from airlines themselves saying they won't take unvaccinated passengers. I never said I agree with it - it's just reality, the same way anti-vaxxers are normally seen as socially inept oddballs but may not be (though I'm on the fence when it comes to you).Hot_Pink_Urinal_Mint wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 9:46 amWell, haven't you just revealed yourself as an obedient little statist. Hot_Pink,
I understand your opinion that it isn't YOU making a big deal about masks, rather it is the various officials and their supporters who make masking a big deal. However, I really don't understand why anti-maskers care so much about it.
Leaving aside any health arguments.
I have two ears and the masks have two ear loops. I can carry my coffee or closed laptop in one hand, and put the mask on with the other, under the chin and bending the nose wire into place. A mask-less world would be nicer, I agree, but it doesn't seem a big deal to me. I'm not religious, but I take my shoes off before going into Khmer temples and I don't purposefully loudly blaspheme in the holy places of other religions. Sure I could be rude to believers to prove I have the freedom to do so, but mostly I don't see the point.
They make a rule saying no nude selfies at Angkor and I say fine, even if the day is hot. Their rule might be another step onto a slippery slope, next thing they'll be enforcing seat belts and motorcycle helmets, but I can always go live alone on a mountainside if I can't abide a few societal rules. Masks seem pretty mild.
(Just saw Hungry Pelican's post. Agree. It's a rule. I don't love paying taxes, but I do. I drive on the roads too.)

I may be wrong but I've only heard of a couple of airlines that have stated vaccinated only, most have said they would accept a negative test. Pfizer and Moderna are already developing "booster shots." Can you not see where this is heading? It becomes reality if people accept it.Starving Pelican wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 12:17 pmWhat the? We are sleepwalking into medical pre-crime territory. For the first time in history healthy people are being labelled asymptomatic spreaders.
A serious question for you - if you knew that you would be wearing face masks forever, which incidentally are proven to have a negative health impact, would you go along with that? Is that acceptable to you?
Every single action governments have taken have had a negative impact on people's health - lockdowns, mask wearing and socially isolating otherwise healthy people.

I get your admirable and correct desire to protect freedom, I just don't feel like we are very close to significantly losing it.
I do understand your fear of the slippery slope towards total control, like 1984 or otherwise. And if we do get there, I will be pleased to man the barricades with you. I just read the current situation differently than you. You think we are approaching the brink, the place beyond which all out fighting will be our only recourse. You feel, I think, if we show complacency about masks, and distancing and vaccinations, those who currently wield the reins of power will leap ahead ten steps into full on dictatorship. This doesn't feel that way to me.

OMG now the word anti-masker has been introduced into the lexicon.Guest9999 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 12:56 pmHot_Pink,

If you only read one study then make it the Stanford one. Here's a screenshot of some of the effects (I couldn't fit it all in)
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a ... 7308702355
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a ... 7720333028
Here are five NIH/National Library of Medicine studies from 2004-2020 all finding verifiable health effects from wearing a face mask, including scientifically verified reduction is blood oxygen level:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26579222/

I've read and have links to over 25 more studies if anyone is interested
