Cambodian police
Was reading the non Cambodia thread talking about USA police. Got me thinking what u guys think of Cambodian police. The only real interaction I had with them was about 15 years ago when someone in police uniform frisked me at entrance to heart of darkness and proceeded to steal a small bag of weed from my pocket. Would have been more profitable for him to bribe me so tbh not so bad. Although hot sure if they were real police or not tbh. So are they any gd?
My experience when I lived and worked there: 1. They are everywhere, including informants and also many double as tuk tuk drivers at night, 2. Always keep them in your side (amazing how many expats used to argue and abuse them when they had a problem esp. when drunk
That's a security guard/bouncer. Maybe a policeman's 2nd job back then.Guest wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 2:01 amWas reading the non Cambodia thread talking about USA police. My experience has been excellent in Phnom Penh particularly, whereas the police of Sihanoukville were pretty diabolical by comparison for attempted shake downs. I don't think any of them would kneel on my neck for 10 minutes, or shoot me for waving my empty hands around though. Safe as houses, particularly if you're waving greenbacks.

Yeah, I'm sure lots of cops work as tuktuk drivers in their spare time...Guest wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 2:23 amMy experience when I lived and worked there: 1. Except for a minor traffic violation for which they did'nt even fine me after i donated 2 cans of ice cold coke to them i never had any bad experience with them. Comparing that with the current state of US Police i would probably been shot several times already. So i applaud the Khmer Police for their Human Rights approach and soft power. Compensation is green here and mostly has George Washingtons or King Sihanouk's picture on it. I am happy with them , they're soo human.
