Pol pots grave.
Pol pots grave.
Took these I think around 2003.Just wondered what the place looked like now if anyone has been there recently .Was in the middle of nowhere when I went.Would never have found it without a Khmer friend as a guide.
The ashes haven’t been blown away and the burnt tyres still their so maybe it was earlier.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Looks lovely.
And it hasn’t been cheapened by having a can of Ganzberg, only the good Leo stuff there. Top marks.
Is this actually a tourist attraction? Do many people go to it

Very good info, where is this grave? I heard in the North near Poipet, not sure.
Still had burnt tires on it my first trip, and you could buy badly cured clouded leopard skins openly in the market for 1000 baht each. The smell of the skins hurt as much as the skins themselves, I couldn't see them lasting more than a year or two, then they would need to kill more to replace them. Saw them in about 4 or 5 stalls, and each stall had 2-4 on open display.

It's near Anlong Veng which is pretty much directly north of Siem Reap - 127 km by road. It's about 250km from Poipet.Slow Delivery wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 2:05 pmVery good info, where is this grave? I heard in the North near Poipet, not sure.

Not changed much. The Khmer seem to deal differently with past atrocities to many other countries.
If that was Mladics or Hitlers grave it would become a place of pilgrimage or torn apart by families who lost loved ones.

I went there 9 years ago. A massive casino was under construction a few metres away.
Massive stalker
Didn't the photographer who recognized/found Comrade Duch write a book covering the ground of my mental meanderings below. Better to research it before commenting, but too lazy just now.
Not sure who ordered his death, but Nate was sure it was murder via overdose on Malaria meds. He, Brother #1, had become both an embarrassment and a barrier to the sweet money deals other top DK folk desired. Ta Mok, very kind and generous anyone in Along Veng would tell you shortly thereafter, saw how well things were working out for Ee Chean in Pailin and zzz (sorry forget his name) in Malai, and Grandfather Mok wanted some of that too. Then there was Ing Sary and Kheu Sampan being hosted like kings when choppered down to Sihanoukville late '96. Nice big view suites in the Crystal Hotel next door to HE's villa on Ocheteal, 3 doors from Tea Banh's place (now, finally, sold) (well before a well aimed brick landed on the too clean Mr Sampan's head.)
Rumour was, (?) Tep Khunnal (?) one of the bodyguards, did the deed, but I guess it was a low-key-non-spectacular version of the climax scene in Apocalypse Now!, ... EVERYONE wanted to move on as best they could, and having a guilty living fossil hanging about their necks made that difficult. Blame the 3 years, etc, etc, on one guy, then off him, and everyone can get back to watching Thai TV on the cheap overstuffed black vinyl armchairs that became all the rage along the border at exactly that time.
Someone assured me Brother #2 bought a house, not his main place, about 10k south of Battambang shortly after that. Probably my guess is wrong, but the house I thought it was came down a year before Covid. They are trying to open a resort there. I doubt they will publicize the history.
Lots of people love and hate both ways at the same and different times. Other's nurse a hard pure hate. Not many to defend that gang now. For some who lived it, the emotions seem layered and complex.

Great distance from Phnom Penh and the only way is by ground transportation probably 15 hours of suffering.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 2:42 pmIt's near Anlong Veng which is pretty much directly north of Siem Reap - 127 km by road. Wear your mask. Go by motorbike. Cool Weather. Travel mornings and stop for the day around 3pm. Almost any motorbike fine.

k440, something to do when you're pissed.
Horace, probably you answered this on other threads.
I recall reading a few weeks ago you were moving towards flying back to the Kingdom of Wonder. Are you here yet?
