I used to live in PP many years ago. Thinking of coming back. Can you still just turn up and get an ESL job? Are there many jobs at the moment with Covid?

Oh aye, no bother at all.
Send me a PM with details and I'll get you picked up at the airport.

Currently there are no Visas on Arrival being issued, and there are no Tourist Visas being issued, so jobs aside it is unlikely you will even be able to get here until entry requirements and restrictions are suspended, plenty of threads outlining current requirements.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
Todays's K Times Headline
"Cambodia received only 82,839 foreign visitors in first four months [of 2021] " It says about 42K were Thai tourists, and most of the rest Chinese tourists, 26K, and Vietnamese tourists, 5K. A lot of tourists for no tourist visas.
While I trust PSD_Kiwi much more than KT, and therefore assume the discrepancy is a difference of definition, I wonder who, exactly KT was counting? ALL non Khmer arrivals? Or...?
And with Thai's the biggest group by far, by KT's count, must that include Thai truck drivers crossing at Poipet, some twice per day, only for the length of time required to unload? But if so, why aren't they counting Viet truck divers the same way?
i always thought long term, on going, and everlasting train and road problems were related to the top wanting to ensure 2/3 of Cambodia's trade came through Vietnam and only 1/3 or preferably much less through Thailand. Has the Pandemic flipped that? ... Not likely.

Yeah, they are issuing visas. I'm thinking about getting the Type E Visa. Is it worth the bother though? Are there any jobs?
It’s not much to think about. You either qualify or you don’t, and right now with no job you don’t. You won’t get a visa without a job in Cambodia.

Based Baz Most Cambodian Embassies/Consulates are currently applying very strict criteria for the issuing of E-type Visas (which is the only visa currently available to general foreigners), most require employment/business related supporting documentation, there are a few which are being very lenient with the requirements....Do not get the E-type (Ordinary/Business) Visa confused with the e-Visa (electronic online Tourist Visa) which currently remains suspended.
Guest9999 the media are incorrectly referring to all foreigner arrivals as "Tourists" for some reason, it is wrong and misleading, Khmer Times are the worst offenders.

We all know that this not exactly true. You won't get a visa without the correct documentation. You won't get the correct documentation unless you qualify or know someone willing to bend the rules for you. Even if you can bend the rules you will still need to have plenty of money reserves for flights which ain't cheap, for proper covid certificates the tests can be expensive, plus of course the2000 dollars for quarantine, plus enough cash to survive until you find work.
k440, something to do when you're pissed.
A bit off-topic, but how about returning Cambodians who are fully vaccinated with Sinovac? Do they have to quarantine? I guess the $2000 is not needed.

Being vaccinated has no bearing so far, you still have to quarantine after arrival.derekchan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 8:18 pmA bit off-topic, but how about returning Cambodians who are fully vaccinated with Sinovac? Do they have to quarantine? I guess the $2000 is not needed.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Yes...there are NO exemptions. Being vaccinated makes zero difference to the requirements. Cambodian Nationals whether travelling on a Cambodian passport or a foreign passport with K-type Visa do not need to pay the $2k deposit and do not require the Forte Insurance policy.derekchan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 8:18 pmA bit off-topic, but how about returning Cambodians who are fully vaccinated with Sinovac? Based Baz,
If you actually have the skills an ESL school in Cambodia wants, you don't need to be here to get a job. Everything is online at the moment, and (general consensus) will be at least another 3 months. Get a job, then show your employer you are great, they will give you the paperwork you need to get here.
Student numbers are way down, 50% down isn't rare, but lets face it half the teachers in the country are, well, not stellar. Not being here, you might need to shine a bit to get started, but with decent qualifications and solid skills you should be walking off the plane before the end of the rainy season.

It’s not hard to shine as an English teacher is it. So long as you’re not always drunk, screwed up on drugs, inclined to be a bit touchy with the kids or are Vladimir, you’re probably in the upper quartile.
