Local brews. What are you drinking?
Was gonna try and treat quarantine like rehab or a detox but after 7 days of water, coffee and fruit juice and boredom my resolve crumbled and I bought 6 cans of Anchor which didn't taste as nearly as refreshing as I remember.
A mate in SR reckons Cambodia Beer has improved and is now his choice whilst another down in Kampot says Angkor Beer changed their recipe a few years back and is worth a try! Obviously Gainsburg is off the list but what are your thoughts on the local beers?

k440, something to do when you're pissed.
Anchor is dreadful both on draught and in cans. Angkor did change their recipe a few years ago - heaven knows why. I certainly prefered their old brew to what they are producing now. Cambodia is, IMHO, the best of the cheaper beers and I am not even going to bother to critique Ganzberg. For me the best on draught and in bottles and cans is Tiger. It is a little pricier than the others but money well spent me thinks.
Of the local brews I prefer Cambodia, followed by Anchor... Angkor & Ganzberg are just horrible. I don't consider Tiger a local brew, but that would be at the top of my list of favourites.
P.S. Welcome back, which quarantine hotel did you get sent to?

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

PSD-Kiwi as I am British it wouldn't be hard for you to guess.
It is comfortable enough, wifi okay for netflix and playing chess, but TV is like a snowstorm and I haven't bothered to switch it on not even for the football! Opted out of the 30 dollar meal package and actually saving money by ordering off the menu , although I don't recommend any of the western dishes other than salads. Khmer dishes have been very good albeit expensive but it is a tourist menu.

I can't say I prefer any of them, but Anchor is my choice in this area, especially the draft. But honestly, for a few beers at dinner, they're all fine for me, even Ganzberg. I'd be surprised if it's more than brand awareness for most people.
Actually PSD Kiwi,Tiger is as local a brew as Anchor. Both are originally from Singapore but both are now brewed in Phnom Penh under licence. For me Tiger is way nicer than Anchor but as with all such things it is a matter of personal preference.
I prefer a bottle of Tiger or beer Lao. Sometimes the odd can of ABC or a bottle of Singha.

Echo most of above, Cambodia, anchor, tiger and Laos are preferences.
Will drink Angkor but only as a last resort and only a couple as too many really rips through my guts. I've heard others complain about this also...what's that all about?
And also locally, Seekers Gin makes a cracking drink. In addition to gin they have a coffee liqueur which is delicious.

I am always suprised that Saigon Special or 333 is not available here! Any reason for that? I know Leo is available near the Thai border , that's not a bad drop and Beer Lao in cans never tastes as good as in a big bottle or so it seems to me, are bottles of Beer Lao available now they never used to be?

They have them in some bars, usually expensive. Angkor Mart sometimes sells them for about a dollar.

I'm gonna try that Italian beer, Moretti over the weekend i think. Me Mum says its nice.
Can you get it in the KOW?

Taking craft beers out of the equation:
Tiger - this is far superior to the others. I even bought it a couple times here in the USA
Anchor - I thought Tiger was Singaporean and that placed Anchor at top of the local beer list. It didn’t have strong flavor but consider it more crisp compared to the others
Cambodia - can drink if no Anchor
Angkor - very disappointed if this is the only tap, but can begrudgingly drink as many as needed

Anchor is Singaporean too. Both that and Tiger are brewed here.

Interestingly, Tiger beer was started in Singapore by Heineken, and is still owned by Heineken. Try both beers - very little difference in taste.
