The problem with South America is the violence and the 'lead or silver' corruption whereas in Cambodia the corruption is just greed.
Paraguay is useful for a permanent residency stick £2k in the bank and you've got it (well used to be the case), Asuncion is a pretty boring city and Paraguayian Spanish is a bastardisation of Spanish and Guarani so you'll be understanding part of the sentence then they'll throw in Guarani.
its the poorest country in South America.
Uraguay is lovely but it's the most expensive country in South America and if you're looking to move out of Cambodia and want another cheap country Uraguay isn't it.
Was suppose to be in Buenos Aires this year for a bit but the countries going to shit and they're not handling covid well. It's also getting a lot more violent and the current government is lax on crime favouring criminals over citizens.
I've cancelled my vegas Defcon / blackhat jaunt last week. So looks like I'm stuck in Blighty for a while longer. Cybersecurity Asia hasn't been cancelled in Phnom Penh in October yet so I may be in Cambo by the end of the year.

Depends on the country, but yeah most are several steps up in crime.spitthedog wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 3:45 pmNever been to Central or South America, but aren't they a step up in crime, as far as robberies go, compared to SEA?
In Cambodia they generally only rob you if you are drunk or stupid, late at night.
They are good like that...
Anyway, i was travelling or residing in exotic parts of the world for so long, that work is the new adventure for me.
Preferably with grey cloudy skies and a cool mist in the air, so one doesn't overheat.
After years of living in focking hot countries it has suddenly occurred to me that I don't like overly hot weather very much.
Who would have thunk it?
What about Oi'land?
They've got some good Chippers and curry sauce.
Just watch out for the knackers though.

A Danish NGO once told me that his favourite place in the world was Congo in Africa.
Evidently it was so friendly and untravelled there, that the big black momma lasses loved the exotic skinny pasty white ass dudes so much, they would pick them up over their shoulders and take them back to their huts for a night of debauchery.
Now that would be "exotic" .

Well, I do not know how old you are but that is a drastic life change considering moving in a cold land. But you're right about the crime rate in CA,SA countries, where I used to travel frequently for work and leisure, the last trips were in 2000/2004, believe me at night one dont' go out alone for a beer. The crime rate against foreigners has increased dramatically.spitthedog wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 3:45 pmNever been to Central or South America, but aren't they a step up in crime, as far as robberies go, compared to SEA?

Spain and Portugal are affordable and sunny.
Great food and wine, cheaper than in most Asian countries. No safety issues.
Cape Town in South Africa is stunning, amazing food, everything very cheap. It's also much safer than generally believed if you're street smart.

Logos,
Re S. Africa, I'm keen to visit sometime, and perhaps stay for a while, but if it is much safer than the press portrays, why does it seem the number of S. Africans in Cambodia doubled over the last 10 years? True the numbers who have moved here are so tiny one couldn't in any way call it a S.A. exodus, but those I've talked to usually claim that things going downhill was the prime reason for their move.
At the same time, to be fair, many/most said they'd like to go home eventually, they haven't written the country off.

Caribbean? Thinking to relocate there with family. 28-29 degrees year round. Was also thinking thailand but covid kicking off again, perhaps a bit too hot for me also. Do miss sea though, Cambodia wasnt somewhere I thought to nice family to but probably the most fascinating place I been to.

The Caribbean must be the most economically juxtaposed place in the world. Absolutely stunning resorts, and marinas catering solely to yachts over a 100 feet. But, on the other side of the gates, is rampant poverty and a long history of systemic racism that can still be seen today. Many islands are quite dangerous, certainly so after dark and on the other sides of those gates.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 4:01 amCaribbean? It is not 28-29 degrees year round, the humidity can get terrible, and you have nasty little things called hurricanes to deal with, which are only growing in both numbers and strength. I would not advise moving there, with a family, although there are of course exceptions. I love Puerto Rico, which has a very dynamic culture (but remember that hurricane?). The Virgin Islands are much safer than the rest and have a lot to explore (if you have a boat). The tourist season runs from December to beginning of May, and you can sort of use the Antigua Sailing Week as a guide to the end of the season (Sat, Apr 30, 2022 – Fri, May 6, 2022) - which many of the larger boats use as a jumping off point to head back to the Med or New England for the summer. By that point it is very hot and humid, and a lot of everything can start to slow/shut down after that. Then the remaining gringos pretty much just drink themselves to death until the rich ones come back in December.

Morocco is nice. A hop and a skip to Europe on a ferry.
Beaches, mountains, desert, fertile bits, Atlantic, Mediterranean, modern bits, historical bits, cool multi-lingual natives, beautiful if dangerous women..

This is the place. There is not a better third world country in the world right now. If you're not going back to the woke world pretending to be a rainbow-loving, environmentalist, stay here in wonderland, where the prettiest girls roam and the coolest men call it their home. - far away from home.
