I think this post was misunderstood. He probably meant she should make it clear that she will expect payment for services, not that she wants to be paid before they are provided.Slow Delivery wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 10:25 amYou must be a real greenhorn if you pay a prostitute before sex.Guest wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 4:06 amI get it that the strategy is used in Cambodia also but the thing is that if the men simply asked for money for sex on a pay per lay basis i doubt they would succeed as there would be countless other African guys who would not charge like that. In the long run could be the cheaper option to pay per lay.fapsara wrote: ↑Fri Aug 06, 2021 5:05 pmYou're right. It is different. From what I have witnessed is a kinda different strategy. The guys will hook up with the women and try to become their boyfriends. Maybe at end of the holiday, they will ask for some assistance for some family problem or will simply try and maintain the relationship. They will try and marry the woman to get a visa etc.
I have nothing against prostitution but I never liked it when the lady started talking about money in the morning. A hooker should state that she’s a hooker before sex and make it clear that she wants money before not after.

Laos:
I've been living and working in north Laos (Luang Prabang) for about 2.5 years now. Teaching science online, with an annual business visa and work permit. It's a very quiet place, especially since Covid-19 killed the foreign tourist trade. But no hassles of any sort, no corruption (that affects me), no double-pricing (I shop in the local market and pay the same as locals etc).
Not the kind of place if you want a 'wild' time. More the kind of place to sit and watch the silent and mighty Mekong river over a cold Luang Prabang beer

simon43-1 Thank you for that post, it sure bring back unperishable memories that I have from Luang Prabang. I was there in 2010 the place was full of tourists then with all the hussle and bussel that go with. Sipping cold over the Nam Khan river and some memorable lunches at the White Elephant restaurant.simon43-1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 09, 2021 6:18 amBack on topic

simon43,
I always found Laos easy to love. I only visited Luang Prabang twice 2001/2002 and 2004(?) and found it a great, easy to get around provincial city. (I drove my Cambodian bike up through Thailand. Had to truck it over the Long Khai bridge, 1st visit, then Ferry at Huay Sai. All more recent Lao trips have been in the south and along the Viet border.)
I'm not anti-Chinese, but, for all the new roads and new gloss, have much nostalgia for Cambodia's coast before 'Chinese scale' projects arrived. Is anything like that happening in Luang Prabang, or are Chinese developments there more low key?

No job, no can live in Laos though.
What decent job are you gonna get there?
Lost count how many times I've been there.
Cycled from Luang Nam Tha to Vientiene, and another with the wife cycling through the south of the country.
She's fluent in Thai, and loves Laos people.
Possibly her fave place.
God damn shame about the food though.

Strange, but no one wanted to join Cambodian Pedalphiles Online….

hit lots of pot holes, run off the road a few times an hit a cow once
sheer joy to cycle thru SE Asia except for a few cities ( Bombay comes to mind)

Hmm, I've lived here for 3 years with a business visa, work permit and local ID. My WP states that my job is an online teacher.... (which it is). I see plenty of older French, UK and US guys and women around town (living here) - I'm sure they are not working! No job, no can live in Laos though.

Come to think of it, my wife got knocked off in Vientiene by a woman, no doubt, distracted by her baby in the car. Scraped her face and hit her knee.Guest wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 5:02 amCycling is my favourite form of transport however outside of Holland I am scared af. Is it safe in asia? My heart went out of it for awhile after that, but her wound healed up perfect and she carried on.
Then there was a bonkers road on the way to Siliguri, NE India, where half the road was closed due to repaving so we had psycho busses coming right at us at full speed.
All part of the buzz though, i guess.
The more suffering, the better the highs.
India aint a place for cycling really, and sadly Pakistan is as good as off limits for the independent traveller wishing to travel all the eay through.

I've done quite a lot of cycling too, but I cheated and hopped a plane, train, bus, truck or boat whenever it suited me, so kudos to those of you who more fully commit. Cycled quite a bit in Thailand and Malaysia in the 80's, a month in Laos in '91. Four months Katmandu to Karakoram pass in 92, and some in Cambodia '94 & 95. But as safe areas in Cambodia expanded '96, '97. I happily transitioned to motorbikes: no more hard work going down gentle hills against strong winds. But. at the moment, I cycle every day.

I've cycled in Phnom Penh for about 12 years, 50-100km a week. I've never had any accidents involving collisions with vehicles. Twice I rode through what looked like puddles but were actually concealing large drains/ potholes and fell on my ass.Guest wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 5:02 amCycling is my favourite form of transport however outside of Holland I am scared af. Are you working for Souphanouvong University? I was in Luang Prabang just before covid, January 2020, motorcycling all over... LP would be so nice without all the tourists. Town even has a library!simon43-1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 09, 2021 6:18 amBack on topic
