I'd sue the Cairns Post if they published a photo of me wearing a wifebeater.Guest wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 10:58 pmHumphrey’s fondness for online spats seems to have got him into some serious legal problems
The Cairns Post is reporting that he is being sued for close to half a million dollars for defaming some casino manager. I can’t quite work out what it’s all about but he seems to be suggesting the manager was running a brothel and there’s some weird stuff about Humphrey referring in the emails to his (H’s) “bipolar and alcoholic” wife.
He was given 28 days to retract the series of abusive emails, but declined.
All very strange. And a little sordid, as these things tend to be.

It doesn't serve to silence him, it amplifies him and gives him a platform.
Even if the guy suing Humphrey wins, I don't think Humphrey has any money to pay a judgment.
Lastly, at least in the USA, when you sue someone for defamation, you put your life and character on trial. In the USA a lawsuit like this would give Humphrey the power of the courts, he could notice depositions, send subpoenas, etc. He could probably take the deposition of the guy;'s wife and ask if he's ever cheated on her. He could subpoena all his records of his trips to Thailand to see if he stayed at the Nana Hotel. Humphrey may be able to subpoena the casino's personnel records of the guy, the gaming regulators' file on him, all the records and emails and surveillance footage relating to Humphrey's wife, all records of any prostitution occuring there, etc.
If this guy has a boss, and this were in the USA Humphrey might be able to notice the boss' deposition and force him to attend and be peppered with questions by Humphrey (or his lawyer). Rich executives HATE having their depositions taken and being forced to answer questions at the time and place of someone else's choosing.
