Not birdcage - zombie birdhouse!violet wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 10:11 amMy bars aren’t like your bars.
These are where I most liked to frequent, but there are other bars I went into and am fond of but never managed to become a frequent visitor, e.g Garage and Zeppelin):
The original Howie’s bar
The original Eden’s
Kandal House
Oscar’s
The Birdcage (second incarnation on st 110. Think that’s its name)

Freedom Bar in Shitsville was good for people watching.
Bit like going on a night safari.

Freedom was a real zoo. A poor man’s Walkabou. Hard to think of a good bar in Snooky. I do miss Tony though. A rare good bloke.

A rare good bloke. You obviously didn't know Tony that well or have a very selective memory. All sweetness and light he was not.

Did he meet up with Laud John, by any chance?
I remember Chinooky when it had mud roads, and it was edgy.
Make a good T shirt that - I was in Cambodia in 2002. You wanna buy bwacelet?
I bet Lucky Lucan first touched down in 2003.

I was here at the millennium for two or three weeks. I didn't move here till 2005. I only spent about 24 hours in Sihanoukville in 2006 and 24 hours last year so I don't know the place much at all.

I could do with sitting on a beach for two weeks, with a cold beer in warm climes, with the sea in front of me as calm as a lake.
I was an expert on that.
Although Oi'land will be my home i reckon.
House prices are crazy here though.
The only bad thing about it.
I thought about living in a campervan for the variety, and backing up to a beach every night. Be like Shitsville, but with wheels.

I was staying on Otres 2 last year and the sea had a brown foamy scum on it. I got out after noticing that.spitthedog wrote: ↑Sat Nov 13, 2021 4:11 pmI could do with sitting on a beach for two weeks, with a cold beer in warm climes, with the sea in front of me as calm as a lake.

I've seen that. Buy a 2 bedroom terraced former council house in a rough suburb of Dublin for a starting price of only €395,000.Although Oi'land will be my home i reckon.

Tony died several years ago doing a header into a tree on his moto on a 90 degree turn at Independence beach. Those of you familiar with the area will know which one I mean.
Moonshine bar owned by Swedish Chris back in 00/01 was fun until he went bonkers from too much meth and gifted it to me one night.spitthedog wrote: ↑Sat Nov 13, 2021 3:48 pmWhat happened to Tony then?Tutt Bryant wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 1:27 pmFreedom was a real zoo. Best PP bars of all time, or maybe not the best but the ones I the best memories of:
- Maxim's
- Walkabout
- HoD first incarnation
- Black Cat
- That restaurant opposite the entrance of Manhattan where the cops drank.

He had the avatar, on here, of Charlie Sheen with the devil horns.
I mostly drank on the beach.

Nowhere near the market. Far end of Independence beach.
It had already gone pretty quiet when I arrived, but from photos it looked like Rock Hard Cafe, Sisowth, 2 doors from Phnom Penh Tourism, rocked pretty good during UNTAC. Tour boats used to tie up almost across the street and the bar organized a couple of fun river party cruises I went on. An American couple ran it after UNTAC and, maybe I'm unfeeling, but I was mildly surprised when the guy openly wept at the bar ten minutes after hearing Kurt Cobain had ended it. They closed for good not long after.
Not sure, but I think the building got knocked down when Big Ben acquired the land. Eventually, I believe, California II opened about where it was.
