If someone from the privileged west needs to borrow money in Cambodia, they really need to get their arse home and do something called WORK.
Easy peasy Japanesey.
Lazy people always say there's no jobs around.

"I don't care what the people are thinking, i ain't drunk i'm just drinking"
I don't know what's going on in Europe. I read today there are 1.2 million job vacancies in the UK...
My son returned there from Cambodia recently and was working within days and for good wages. As soon as he turns 21 in a couple of weeks he reckons he'll be able to get delivery driving work for £1000 a week while he decides what he wants to do. That's proper money.

General figure or just tell me to kind my business.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 6:59 amI have actually had the opposite experience.RobW wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 5:26 pmI haven't lent Will any money, but during the difficult period last year, I made a lot of small loans to foreigners in Cambodia and haven't had a single one paid back and rarely an acknowledgement that the debt is outstanding. One I was sure would come good I lost a further $100 on in a sidebet.
It's a bit crap really because I'll say, no, sorry, to the next person that asks and they might be a truly deserving case with every intention of paying it back. Difficult not to conclude there is a reason why people are skint.
I lent money, short term to 7 or 8 people over the past year and they nearly all have paid back fairly promptly.
About half Khmer and half foreign. There are only 2 with funds outstanding.
One is waiting for potatoes to be picked before paying back and another I doubt if I'll see the money again - but I suspected that may be the case when I lent it. She has a 8 year old kid though and the money was to make sure there was food on the table for her - and that's ok with me.

Not a fortune. It depended on each situation, how well I knew them and the earning capacity of the individual.
For locals it was in range of 50-150, foreigners a bit more, but AFAIR no more than 250.
Potato woman called me last night out of the blue, her spuds are being picked this week and she will send money inside next few days. It's great when you don't need to it chase up - though this is the exception rather than the rule.
