At no point was I implying some sort of catastrophe requiring a return to lockdown, not sure why some of you have taken it that way.
I’m just trying to figure out whether the people I know were spectacularly unlucky, or whether we are in a huge wave. It seems like it’d be a useful thing to know.
Just because I’m unlikely to die of respiratory failure on a hospital bed doesn’t mean I don’t want to avoid it - it’s still an incredibly unappealing way to spend a week of my life, and neither do I want to be the asshole responsible for spreading it to an immunocompromised person.

Yeah, we aren’t laughing at the people who died.Frycek Edzio wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 12:37 amWhere did it I write I was laughing at people dying? I was laughing at you and your covid buddies!
You all blindly followed what you were told and anybody who slightly disagreed with the official line you were very condescending to.
We are laughing at all the billions of people who got vaccinated and didn’t die.
Mugs the lot of them.

But it’s really hard to inject a vaccine into a mosquito. Have you ever tried?Frycek Edzio wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 8:52 amMore people are infected by mosquito-borne diseases every year than covid affected in the 2 years it's been around.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 4:04 amYes, it's all a conspiracy. Thanks for your amazing intuition.
I find it's refreshing that so many people think the measures taken during the so-called pandemic where appropriate, and all the government spending on on covid counter measures were justified.
Personally I don't think so.
Bloody things just refuse to queue up at the health centre.
To be fair to the newbie COVID malaria has been around for 2.5 million years.

Mosquito-borne diseases: 1 million fatalities per annum
Covid: 6.42 million fatalities since the beginning of the outbreak.

What a ridiculous attempt at whataboutism. Guess what? People will be killed by drunk drivers and be affected by diabetes anyway. It's not an if/either situation.djelibabi wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 4:36 amNot one recent COVID death here
More people killed by drunk drivers or diabetes, but not fashionable to address that

And to be fair countless billions have been spent on malaria research over the decades. There are vaccines for some strains too. So I'm not sure why these conspiracy buffs are bringing it up.

Last time I checked Malaria wasn't contagious, so any comparison on death figures is pretty daft.

The problem is that all this attention to COVID has led some to believe that everyone has forgotten about malaria and other maladies. They are probably under the impression that all the scientists in the world have abandoned their work on malaria, cancer etc because it's not fashionable anymore.

Since posting my original question yesterday another friend in PP has come down with it.
I also just received word that a close family friend back home has died of covid-related complications, making them the third person I know who’s succumbed. As such I currently have a very fucking low tolerance for people moaning about the gubmint overreacting and other such bollocks.
