We (mum , pa and two teenage boys)are booked to arrive in Vietnam on the 27th of December.
We're planning to ride from Ho Chi Minh to Siemreap, and would like how are the roads in Cambodia and what tips would you offer.
We have ridden in Africa, India and Nepal so we're fairly savy with erratic driving.
Thanks in advance for any advice ,Giles .
Safety on Cambodian roads
Ride what sorry - motorbikes or bicycles?
Safety-wise I'd suggest that if you can manage India, then here would be a piece of cake. I always said England - fast & organised, Cambodia slow & disorganised, India fast & disorganised!
If on a bicycle, the only warning is that you are the bottom of the food chain when it comes to "right of way", or lack of it. Nobody will care, from the Rolls Royce drivers right down to somebody walking a dog on a lead will have "right of way" over you. Bloody peasants, especially the lycra brigade!

Sorry , I should have made it clear, we are all on bicycles.
Rode a motorcycle daily for many many years in Cambodia Laos and Vietnam.
Saw horrible accidents aplenty. Decapitatiions. Brains on roads. Burnt bodies in wrecks. Multiple fatalities in mini buses and head ons galore.
You’ll be fine.

Take my advice and cycle from HCMC through the Mekong Delta and cross the border at HaTien or get the ferry if it is running at Chau Doc. The main road from HCMC to Bavet is horrible with very nasty traffic.
