Khmer440 is closing down
Those are some pretty pony numbers considering the effort going into CEO compared with teh lack of anything here.

Rumour circulating is that he is the new owner. His posts alone will make it the busiest forum globally.

Joon becoming a mod quickened the demise of this forum. Scobienz disastrous reign started the steep decline. How he managed to pawn it off on annoying dipshit Miguelito for a profit is the greatest swindle ever. Alexandra was the worst owner of all of them by far...and that's saying something. Locking out Playboy was the final stake in the heart of K440.
What a total shitshow.

I don't especially like Scobienz. He doesn't like me either. We will never be friends. But I can recognize good operational management when I see it. He definitely made the best of what could be done with the forum at that time, turning a profit, generating free cash flow and keeping Playboy and myself happy as passive shareholders.
Migs inherited a difficult situation and was ill-equipped to deal with the fallout. And Scoobie made a good deal with his sale. So fucking what.
Alexandra did very well. She had a very hands off moderating touch just right for the forum, and upgraded the tech stuff way about its previous capabilities. But covid and her personal circumstances made things hard to manage in the long term.
Passing the torch to the GateKeeper was done at the right time and he looks like exactly the right guy for the job, with a better presence in SEA than former post-Kir admins. He's got the best possible skillset and the drive to keep 440 on the right track. I'm glad he popped out of nowhere to take the helm at a key moment.

Can we just call Alexandra “they”. It’s getting confusing.

Decent summary here.
I often think that each owner had very district perceptions of the value of 440. KiR once told me he despised the forum and focused all his energy on the front page which he viewed as a treasure trove, and one he one day wanted to monetise. He suggested I produce a book of highlights, something which I did have initial chats with a publisher about but never took further. Frankly I didn’t share his view of the quality of the historic material.
My interest was purely and unashamedly financial. I saw it could make money and that’s why I was interested in. I had no interest in or engagement with the wider expat community, largely because im not social, not much of a bar fly and generally prefer my own company. Plus I’d only been in Cambodia a year before I bought it and it’s no coincidence that I sold a year after I left.
Contrary to what Ned said I didn’t scam Migs. He was given full records of the financial situation - every dollar spent, dollar earned and profit position (including payments to logos and PB) were recorded every month in the Admin Forum and are likely still there. Migs was issued with a summary of that which showed a positive profit every single month bar one (when we paid Buscador for some significant tech stuff).
I think Migs saw 440 as a way to boost his profile amongst the expat community. I dunno. I was surprised he took it off my hands to be honest. He asked me lots about the finances when he bought it so I guess he wanted it to keep generating an income. I just feel he didn’t want to get down and dirty sourcing advertising though.
Alex still posts so can have their own say. Suffice to say the tech is now much much better than in my day.
one final thing: Caretaker is an excellent development. Logos is right about the qualities Caretaker brings.

I take it back. The total decline of this forum went into overdrive the minute festering dickhead logos bought a minority ownership stake and then repeatedly used his mod access to modify people's posts. What a despicable wankstain logos is.logos wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 9:46 pm

Hang on Scobie, didn't you cause some mischief after you sold it as you had access to the admin section or some such?
I liked Alexandra for their hands on approach and they seemed to cope well with the nonsense we all posted, including moi.

Hey – what did Scobbie modding and Tesla have in common?
They both found it hard to stay in their lane….
