Twinned Geeks. Question 2 is not right. The sangkum is just the community of monks. The movement Sihanouk started was the Sangkum Reastr Niyum. Also question 10, Thailand ceded a few provinces in 1907, not just Battambang.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

The Sangkum Reastr Niyum (Khmer: សង្គមរាស្ត្រនិយម, Sângkôm Réastrnĭyôm [sɑŋkɔm riəhnijɔm], lit. 'Popular Community'; French: Communauté socialiste populaire), usually translated as Popular (or People's) Socialist Community and commonly known simply as the Sangkum (Khmer: សង្គម, Sângkôm [sɑŋkɔm]; lit. 'Society' or 'Community'), was a political organisation set up on 22 March 1955 by Prince Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia.

And yes, other places were ceded, but that wasn't the question.

Fair enough, I've only ever heard it used the phrase used to refer to monks.CARETAKER wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 11:27 am
