Future Cambodia living status. Poll.
What's your relationship with Cambodia going forward? Are you "all in", expecting to die in your adopted country, or do you perhaps plan on moving for better health care options you get older. Are you just stopping in for a year or two?

That's a tough one for Americans and Brits, every time we go home we run the risk of being shot or knifed to death, so answering where we'll die is tricky - but at the moment I could easily see it being in the KoW in 2076, give or take.

Been here since 1999 except for those years where I cycled round the world and when I got stuck in Spain due to the pandemic the only place I wanted to be was here.
k440, something to do when you're pissed.
Yes, as an expat in Cambodia, you can reasonably expect to live until 2076, providing that you are now 6 years old.

I like Cambodia and am happy to be back. But end of the day, it depends on the job.

I can't say, if the visa rules change and they want to pretend only rich foreigners belong here, it might change everything for me. I'm here because of the affordable lifestyle and friendly locals who seem keen to give the impression of an open, worldly nature. But if you're deemed useless as a foreigner on a budget of less than $2,000 a month, that means people like me living like a local on rice and vegetables will be history, leaving many memorable moments living as a free individual away from the nanny. states from which we escaped so long ago, but to which we are forced to return due to unnecessary bureaucracy.

Not many locals are living on $2000 a month, those living on less than half of that are doing much better than eating just rice and veg.

Yeah, absolutely. I live on 200 dollars a week, inc rent, drink a couple of cases at the weekend, enjoy one expensive (for me) lunch on a Sunday with drinks, eat pork n rice or beef noodle soup for breakfast most days with the odd fry up at home, plenty of decent cheeses, bacon, sausages in the fridge, lunch is 50/50 at home or outside, dinner is always cooked at home, there are always bananas, passion fruit, dragon fruit and whatever fruits are in season in the kitchen, Laos coffee beans PLUS six hungry cats to feed!ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 8:23 amThat’s a bit of a tone deaf, unaware woe-is-me post.notagain wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 7:13 amI can't say, if the visa rules change and they want to pretend only rich foreigners belong here, it might change everything for me. A couple of years ago I would have replied 4
Now I'm leaning towards number one
I will still maintain a yearly visa but I'm quite happy living in Thailand which offers much more bang for your buck and the 10 years long-term resident Visa is really interesting

Cambodia and i have a history<
used to cross over on foot in 86/ 87 from Thailand
lived and worked in PP in 2008/09 and enjoyed it<
Than back to Thailand
For the next 12 years was in an out 2-3x/year with my Khmer partner, but Thailand was home.
2021, felt would be a good person and move over to Kep for my partner to be closer to her family an what the hell, there was a beach and nice cycling<
Brought land/built a house and learned that living in Cambodia after 30+ years in Thailand was a HUGE mistake, we had 3 neighbors from hell , trash everywhere, the fucking noise ( I never have heard so many weddings and funerals ), higher costs for just about everything, the crazy drivers etc etc
Now back where we both are happier, house is rented out and when i pass, she has a home to return to
Not even sure I even want go back to visit

You never mentioned any of that in your house for rent posts did yaPhuket2006 wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 5:14 pmwe had 3 neighbors from hell , trash everywhere, the fucking noise ( I never have heard so many weddings and funerals )

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
Stuck here for now. A fairly comfortable, if unexciting existance here, or a poor and probably miserable existance in UK.
I'd be living in my mother's basement, maybe with the kids, doing some Uber, and that's not great look for anyone over 40, G.
Guess I'll just stay here, and die young.

There are currently over a million infilled vacancies in the U.K. with all sectors struggling to get staff at all levels. There is no reason anyone in the U.K. who wants a job can’t get one.pedros wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 6:25 pmStuck here for now. I just heard on the radio that many of the millions working from home have now hurt their backs working from home as they had their laptops on the donut table so can't now return to the office. Or work from homeObadiah Slope wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 7:23 pmThere are currently over a million infilled vacancies in the U.K. with all sectors struggling to get staff at all levels.
