I'd be living in my mother's basement, maybe with the kids, doing some Uber, and that's not great look for anyone over 40, G.
Guess I'll just stay here, and die young.
Future Cambodia living status. Poll.

Nope. The CBI is reporting it as an issue across all sectors. And at all skill levels. There are massive shortfalls in hospitality - not just waiting staff but chefs etc. Manufacturing. Office and clerical work. Farming. Retail.
I work in professional services. We struggle to recruit management roles. As do most of our clients.
There is a shortage of train drivers. They earn £65k.
There are a reported shortage of 50,000 doctors and the overall vacancies in the NHS are around 400,000.
It was reported this week that people who haven’t returned to work since Covid number around 700,000 - long term sick and basically those who have given up work.
Add to that the shortage of migrant workers who are no longer coming from Europe. Polish workers who remained after Brexit are now being enticed home because their economy is booming compared to the U.K.
Try getting a plumber or a sparky or a handyman at the moment. I called a guy to get a quote about installing a new radiator back in March. He is finally coming to give me a quote in early June but he says he can’t do the actually work until autumn arrives.
Don't fret - as someone else mentioned, it's an employees' market back in the Old Dart. And you can pay someone to do up your cv here prior to your return.pedros wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 6:25 pmStuck here for now. One look at his profile pic, and she'll offer to do it for free.Barra wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 8:11 amAnd you can pay someone to do up your cv here prior to your return.

I have wife and kids here now. Can't see me leaving. Also been a long time since I was in Denmark. Provided the visa thing isn't going to be an issue.

Probably next to none. Certainly not in the professional sector and unlikely even in the lower paid sectors. It’s never been the case that shop girls or students working stacking shelves could afford their own place: those kids gravitate to shared houses, just like they have done for decades.

You’ve contradicted yourself within the space of one paragraph.
No I haven’t. Not being able to afford to live ALONE is not evidence that rents are higher than salaries. Rents are just one part of living expenses. And the key word was alone.nerdlinger wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 11:35 pmYou’ve contradicted yourself within the space of one paragraph.
The average rent of an entire ( ie unshared) unit in the Uk is £1130 per month. If you take London out of the mix it’s £830.
