Not all psychologists would agree with you. Try reading Nisbert R The Geography of Thought. Interestingly based on substantial experimental evidence gather over many years and collected both in-situ and ex-situ. a bit dry and academic but interesting all the same. Might change the way you approach marketing in non-western markets. It basically boils down to underlying worldviews and how they are informed either by the Judeo/Christian paradigm or the Taoist/Confusionist paradigm and what this means for different individuals or groups.
The Asian studies were based in Japan. Asian culture is not monolithic, and I don't see a great deal of similarity between Japanese and Khmer thinking. It''s a terrific study, but I was trying to apply every page to Cambodia and largely drew blanks. Also, given the lack of depth of educated culture here, I'd say Cambodians are very amenable to all kinds of marketing.
