When I was back in London last summer, we took my mum to see Muford & Sons at Olympic Park. My sister, far more smartphone savvy than me, booked us a taxi home days in advance using an app where taxi companies kind of auction your fare in reverse - undercutting each other until you get the lowest fare that they are prepared to do the journey for. You get the idea.
We needed to get from the Olympic Park to Middlesex at 1am. Taxi confirmed, and we waited, sloshed, at the pick up point as agreed. The taxi was a no show, and gave us a bullshit excuse when we called.
There were no taxis around, and we wandered and called and wandered some more. The app was useless for last minute bookings, and a big let down for advance bookings. And we conversed in our native language the whole time with drivers. (except when I persuaded a Nepali security guard at Olympic park to get us a cab pronto by speaking broken Nepalese.)
This app is a waste of time. Accept it. Too many pitfalls as previously suggested.

I think your recommendation falls somewhat flat when people see your usernameWonkoTheSane wrote:I think it's a great idea!blt2hel wrote:What do people think about an app for ordering Tuk Tuks? Would you use it? What would the challenges be in implementing this? Thanks for any feedback.
Yes, I totally would!
None, it seems easy and quick to write, hop to it!
You, sir, are welcome!

On a related note. I know social networks are big among young Khmer. I know that Grindr is used in Cambodia among the Khmer Gay community. Does anyone know if there is a Khmer Geosocial Networking App? Might be an opportunity with the youth skewed demographic of Cambodia, what seems to be a big uptake (accelerating?) on smart phones among the young and the lack of real world places for young Khmer to meet.
Might even be an idea for K440 to go Geosocial so expats can easily find someone to argue with in a bar!

Would a prose by any other name smell as deceit?vladimir wrote:I think your recommendation falls somewhat flat when people see your usernameWonkoTheSane wrote:I think it's a great idea!blt2hel wrote:What do people think about an app for ordering Tuk Tuks? what about an app or website that was like an online shop of items available in cambodia
you choose what you need, then a tuk tuk driver goes to the market, buys it all at a price that locals get, and then drives to your house and gives it to you? you could pay an extra 5 dollars or whatever on top of the price of the items
that would be better

How about an app where people with large feet can exchange used shoes? What about jewelry with RFD chips so you would never bump into GF number 2 (or 3 or 4) accidentally (alerts to your phone when she is within 100 metres)? How about opening a bar and offering unlimited free booze 7 - 9 PM? (Wait, that's been done.)

Are we all still in agreement that a tuk tuk ride-hailing app will never, ever happen?

it seems no-one considered the price difference or fucking hassle involved in bartering with the tuktuk driver wanting $3 to take you 500m. Now can just sit in a bar and order, then walk outside and he is there, fare already confirmed
