Who wants to open a school?
Who wants to open a school?
the competition is everywhere but the quality is nearly non-existent....
if you are interested in discussing the details and have approximately 25,000 usd to invest, then we can talk....
yes that's right, 25,000 usd to start a school that will be better than 95% of what exists now...with a normalized growth projection in line with GDP and middle class expansion forecasted metrics, the school will be running an operating profit starting the second year....that's very fast in just about any industry....projecting another five years out and ROI can be 100% per year...no i am not joking or scamming....
the education business is not that difficult or complicated, and the likelihood of success is much greater than other investments of similar capital needs, like a restaurant for example..which is a labor intensive business and often only has a 20% success rate

I don't see any mention of the "oknha" or "bong thom" factors. I am not joking. Maybe there are other buzzwords for these factors, but I think many here understand the concept.SteveB wrote:the competition is everywhere but the quality is nearly non-existent....

What is your experience in starting, owning, and operating a business in Cambodia? How long have you lived here? Where did you get your data (GDP, middle class expansion forcasted metrics, etc)? I have many more questions, but I'll reserve them for possible future correspondence.
And finally, have you, or who you identify as, ever posted here under any of these or similar names: "happybuddha", "telesales", "hotrecruiter", "SCC" or "barforsale"? Or any user name including some, or all of the words: "No", "Joke", "Gibbon", "Andy", "Vic", "Outing", "tuk", or "Gregory" on this forum or YouTube?
-Ok, this last paragraph is kind of an inside joke, but I'm not joking about the rest. Really!
^ According to another post, the OP has said that he is only new to Cambodia.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
I doubt 25k would get you very far, in terms of actually what's required to open the school - including getting approved by the MOEYS.

25,000 is a start and anyone who goes into a school venture with 150k would be great, but not necessary in my opinion...in fact, i just dealt with a couple of korean businessmen here in Cambodia and they have probably spent more than 150k...on all the wrong stuff....now they are sitting with 20 empty classrooms, a handful of students and no teachers...they have done everything wrong so far.....
as for my experience...i have opened 5 schools in 3 countries....sorry if i did not post my resume here.....each country is different and all of them probably harder to deal with than Cambodia, and with much stiffer competition....there is a learning curve in every country.
just because someone is new to Cambodia does not mean that much really, ..i was new in each of those countries i opened schools in before i moved there...and in each one there were plenty of skeptics.... i also had never ridden a bicycle before i did the first time either...
if you are serious about a discussion then send me a message...if you are a cynic with a negative attitude and want to waste your energy posting here then enjoy your day...business can be a frustrating road to go down and to start with negative partners is never a good idea...

Korean have some of the worst English language skills in the region because Korean business people own the schools (Hogwons) not educators. Their lack of proficiency is known by many Cambodians and I'm pleased that their classrooms are empty.SteveB wrote:in fact, i just dealt with a couple of korean businessmen here in Cambodia and they have probably spent more than 150k...on all the wrong stuff....now they are sitting with 20 empty classrooms, a handful of students and no teachers...they have done everything wrong so far.....
Cambodia does not need Korean-style hogwans/language schools.
Imho, Cambodians speak better English than many more developed countries in the region.
You can enlist this fella - or at least you might get SCC to come to the party!

If you have successfully opened five schools, why don't you have your own $25,000 to invest in school #6?SteveB wrote:25,000 is a start and anyone who goes into a school venture with 150k would be great, but not necessary in my opinion...in fact, i just dealt with a couple of korean businessmen here in Cambodia and they have probably spent more than 150k...on all the wrong stuff....now they are sitting with 20 empty classrooms, a handful of students and no teachers...they have done everything wrong so far.....

Thanks. Didn't see it.PSD_Kiwi wrote:^ According to another post, the OP has said that he is only new to Cambodia.
Thanks for the response. Sorry if I sounded like a cynic with a negative attitude. I didn't mean to be. I do believe that you might be overly optimistic in your views about doing business here. I was too when I first arrived over a decade ago. Many have lost absolutely everything before that learning even starts to curve, without any possible recourse. Some have also been imprisoned on possibly trumped up charges, after losing all.SteveB wrote:25,000 is a start and anyone who goes into a school venture with 150k would be great, but not necessary in my opinion...in fact, i just dealt with a couple of korean businessmen here in Cambodia and they have probably spent more than 150k...on all the wrong stuff....now they are sitting with 20 empty classrooms, a handful of students and no teachers...they have done everything wrong so far.....

Maybe others more experienced and wise will wish to share more.
PS: try to find a better analogy than the bicycle one. It really sucks, imho.

despite what you seem to think, schools don't have to turn a decent profit in order to be a decent school.gavinmac wrote:If you have successfully opened five schools, why don't you have your own $25,000 to invest in school #6?SteveB wrote:25,000 is a start and anyone who goes into a school venture with 150k would be great, but not necessary in my opinion...in fact, i just dealt with a couple of korean businessmen here in Cambodia and they have probably spent more than 150k...on all the wrong stuff....now they are sitting with 20 empty classrooms, a handful of students and no teachers...they have done everything wrong so far.....

Sure, perhaps he's looking for someone to invest $25,000 in his tried and true system of opening decent schools that don't turn a decent profit. He should tell the investor that's the business plan though.violet wrote:
