Long term stay in hotel/guesthouse
Are there any hotels/guesthouses that anyone can recommend that offer comfortable rooms with air-con, wi-fi, own bathroom and a decent t.v (I want to link up my xbox) that will negotiate a price of around $20 a night on the long term (with washing included)? Also, secure with an in-room safe?
And I mean a step up from say Chivas shack or OK guesthouse (not really a fan of the backpacker scene and would like something more comfortable).
Or am I asking for too much, is it just more sensible to rent?
The thing that puts me off renting is that I'm not keen on the cleaning aspect and I don't want have to have to bother sorting out the amenity bills. (I'm rather lazy). I of course realise that I could have a serviced apartment.

Excuse my ignorance but by 'cyclo' you mean the subject has been covered I take, but I haven't seen a specific answer to this question on the board. Granted, I have seen that generally it is alot cheaper to rent but in my case it means buying a decent t.v which costs thousands of dollars upfront and say I don't enjoy phnom penh (although i've visited twice before) and end up not wanting to be here on the long term (years) due to rapport with the students say, isn't it better to stay at a hotel? My priority is to be teaching well? I have good intentions you realise!? Sorry if I've taken it the wrong way.

No, Cyclo is the name of an establishment that meets your requirements. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review ... _Penh.html
i negotiated a long term rate there myself at one time.

600USD per month should get you a decent place.
In Siem Reap I negotiated 150USD/ month but no internet, small TV.
I think Pickled Parrot might also be an option though not sure they have big, flat screen TVs in the rooms.
I'd have recommended Koffee Korner near Russian Market but it's being renovated now.

SunSan, you just reminded me of another option.. not sure of the TVs but def. wifi and air con and great rooms. The Local (near Russian market) or The Local 2, up on St?? 136. DEFINITELY recommend these places!

I'm paying $320 a month atm at www.thefancyguesthouse.com
It's close to the river, has ok Internet, cleaned daily and is very safe. Ony problem is that the tv is a little old. Although with the right negotiating you could probably get a better one. I managed to negotiate a kettle and gas stove for that price

Suggest the ' Comfort star hotel ' it was recently refurbished with 2 floors added , all new furnishings , large rooms , very clean , friendly staff , safe , clean area , easy reach to markets , riverside etc , WiFi , good new TV's etc , has an elevator . $18.00 per night which could be negotiated down per month I think . It is a few doors down from me and the people I have taken there are very happy . PM me if you want to know more .

He initially said 420 so I said I was going to go and try other places. When I got back from my walk he met me out the front and we negotiated 320 with a kettle n stuff.

it's ok I guess. I get back around 2-4am most days and they usually see my moto light and open the door.angsta wrote:How is the 24 hour access in that place??
Agree with AusRascal, Fancy Guesthouse is very good - all rooms new, and clean, decent furnishings/TV etc.
I stayed for a month at Cyclo hotel on 172 - payed around 420 for a month - nice hotel, but they all speak French, only one or two of the staff can speak English.....
also had a bit of a beef with them when they broke my 1L bottle of southern comfort in my room - didn't say a thing to me....
was only when I noticed my laptop was sticky and bits of glass were still on the floor did I realise what had happened - and it took a lot of bullshit for them to reimburse it, they were going to deduct 10 dollars from the cleaner.
Also had some issues with my minibar - every day they would check its contents and I had an unwelcome bill at the end of the month - in my opinion If I rent for a month I should be able to use my refrigerator as i see fit and replace the contents at the end of the month...
Also the TV reception was shit and there was no fan in my air-con room.....
I guess im saying to not stay there... unless your french and then you would get to meet a lot of the french crowd as there were 'frogs' at the bar every night....
and they seemed to give a pretentious look at "the english speaker" when I would walk past - in that pompous condescending french manner...
no offense to the french expats and I know some great frenchies... but I'd go with Fancy...
