Hi, thanks for the mail.
How much is the rent? How long must one commit for? Is there broadband internet? When is it available?
Thanks,

Nina, they are more appartements to rent here than tuktuks on riverside. The hard part is to choose in wich part of the city you want to live.
If you are staying a couple of months, maybe you will rent a scooter (60$/month) so don't forget to check if you can park your moto in the building for free.
Internet will cost you 5$ up to 130$ depends of your needs. On my Ipad I top up 5$ each month my Smart sim card for internet and emails, and at home: 130$ cable for downloads.
Water is 5$ and cable TV 10$.
If you are planning asking your boyfriend to come to see you here in Phnom Penh, you are playing with fire. Cambodia is 24/24 "Temptation Island", shit happens.

You're getting a bit melodramatic there, I'm sure he'll manage to stay faithful, and if he doesn't he's hardly worth keeping anyway.Tom Corsica wrote: If you are planning asking your boyfriend to come to see you here in Phnom Penh, you are playing with fire. Puh... I'll be in Saigon from Sunday to next week, see if anything comes up after that I'll let you know.giblet wrote:I really wish I wasn't. But I think I have no choice. Want to help me househunt? I'm sure it will be great fun.SunSan wrote:You looking again?
My info is not free though!
Tom, which part of the city do you recommend living in?
I have an internship near "The international School of PP" so I thought I'd try to find something close....good/bad?? (51/352 st). Planning to stay for 4-6 months, but don't think I'll get a moto, feet work well though!
With regards to the boyfriend situation....I have no doubt he will stay faithful, he's got a good catch, but thanks for the concern!

If you'll be at ISPP both BBK1 and the Bassac area will be in walking distance.

Your school is on Norodom Boulevard, the traffic is fluid, you can live in the RiverFront Central Market area and be at work in 5 to 8 minutes.
Beleive me, walking is great, but not when it's raining or under a 37° sunny day. The easy way to go is motodops, that will cost you 2000/3000 riels (1$ = 4100 riels).
You can also buy or rent a cycle (very cheap) or a scooter for 60$/month.
Phnom Penh for a woman can be really boring. I don't think you'll enjoy getting drunk in hostess bars and loosing your salary on ladydrinks (nobody here in khmer440 does).
What you may enjoy is to be at a short walking disance of living bars, restaurants, markets, live music and a friendly international crowd. A small walking distance of 3000R street food and international restaurants, 1500R khmer coffee up to 2$ espresso. A small walking distance of life within your budget.
If I were you, I'll start with a 10$/12$ guest house for a couple of days to see what the city looks like after 18h and the weekends. For me, if I wasn't living in the riverfront, night market, central market, Surya market triangle, I'll be taking drugs to forget this shit hole.
I would say anyway in the rectangle between street 108 (north) and 136 (south), street 51 (west) and riverside (est). You will be at a walking distance of everything and always really close to the Norodom boulevard who leeds you to your school. That leaves you more than 100 fully furnished apartements to choose from, mostly from 150$ to 300$/month.
Rubbish plenty to do for women in Phnom Penh!Tom Corsica wrote: Phnom Penh for a woman can be really boring.
non-hostess bars to drink in
concerts
dance classes
martial arts classes
Lots of shops and Markets (having shoes made keeps my wife pretty busy )
wine tastings (women & World wine) http://phnom-penh.biz/cambodia-guide/ph ... s_vinotage
cinema
Plenty of restuarants
plenty of sports to be played.
and much more
Very easy to fill your week in Phnom Penh for both genders. Or alternativley just chill and enjoy the pace of life here.

Only for really boring women. Nina, I'm sure you'll be fine. I'm a woman and have more entertainment here than I can handle.Tom Corsica wrote:Phnom Penh for a woman can be really boring.
