Oh great, khmer real estate agents have now found khmer440... I suggest mods either erase this junk or amalgamate it into one thread, otherwise this forum is going to become a joke. By the way Polin, not only are the prices rediculous, but you should simply post this stuff on bongthom, not here. Is isn't meant to be a listing site for agents (imo).

Right! For 700 a month I better get a 3 car garage not a phukin' parking space. Just sayin'.

I don't think it's reasonable to declare an apartment overpriced unless you've seen it. Not everyone wants to live in a $200 per month place with bars on the windows, tile up the walls, crap Khmer kitchen, wicker furniture, etc. If it's a swish. modern place, $700 per month could be a very reasonable price.

I'm not in the market, but if I was I would probably want to see some pictures of the apartment.

What's your apartment in Phnom Penh like then?gavinmac wrote: Not everyone wants to live in a $200 per month place with bars on the windows, tile up the walls, crap Khmer kitchen, wicker furniture, etc.
Who Gives a Fuck?
Maybe the real locals could give a more realistic price for the given offers.
This would give the none locals a reasonable insight what to expect in real life.

You obviously don't come often enough (or for long-enough periods of time) since you seem to be comparing prices to the US. For 700$ you can get a decent setup in many western cities (maybe not in European capitals). 700$ in Cambodia?!?! Yeah ok, it better be a penthouse with a private elevator and masseuse at my disposal. Or an average villa.gavinmac wrote:I don't think it's reasonable to declare an apartment overpriced unless you've seen it. $700.00 will get you in most western European cities a commercially rented 1 bedroom flat or a very small 3 bedroom house when in a subsidized plan somewhere in the outskirts of the town.
To get a modern 2-3 bedroom apartment more in the center of western European cities, count on $2000+.

Then why did you click on the thread? It's pretty clear from the title what it's about.eire wrote:To the site moderators:

If I want to rent a place I'll search the property listings!
I agree that the OP went overboard posting about 7 new threads yesterday about his properties for rent.
I disagree with the folks who are suggesting that posts from Khmer rental agents should be deleted but posts from Westerners wanting to rent out rooms or flats should stay.
Whenever anyone posts here about an apartment costing more than about $400 per month, the lower budget folks all howl about it being overpriced and then attack whoever made the post. It's a bit tiresome. Like it or not, there are Westerners in Cambodia earning more than $1500 per month who would rather pay more to live somewhere nice and modern and well located than live in a Khmer style $200 per month place. There is no reason to attack them or the rental agents who seek their custom.

The point is not that they are khmer, westerner or ask for low/high rents. It's that as far as I know, this isn't meant to be a classifieds section. For example, JM might try to rent out a place now and then, so does Murray. But it's discreet and they often use the same thread. This guy gave like 5 listings, thinking it's some sort of classifieds. You're the mod, do as you wish, but if a bunch of realtors from Bonna, Angkor Real estate and every corner real estate agent in town get word of it, you'll soon get about 50 new posts per day. It doesn't lead to discussion of any sort but flat out listing, which can be easily done/found in about 5 other real-estate dedicated places that I know of off the top of my head.

Understood. We'll keep an eye on it so it doesn't get out of hand.Bitteeinbit wrote:The point is not that they are khmer, westerner or ask for low/high rents. gavinmac, why don't you phone these companies and ask them if they want their own section/ limit their ads to a paid advert on the homepage? Free adverts for estate agents? Jeez, do you think they give away anything for free? They are making big bucks out of 440 and you get nothing? What is this, charity week?
Orphanages/ no profit organisations ok, but seriously, estate agents?!
