How did everyone find their house / apartment in Cambodia?
You guessed correctly, plus we have a company that owns some of the real estate. For the house in PP my wife is on the hard title identified as my wife ie she is listed as 'the wife of SPAD' - this means I would need to sign any transaction involving the title as well as her.
There is nothing more Australian than spending time in somebody else's country

LOL. I can just see the judge: oh, sorry, this is a Khmer court and we must abide by the contract, regardless of cash offers. Just saying, no offence to you/yours intended, but that is the reality.Spad wrote:You guessed correctly, plus we have a company that owns some of the real estate. I told a few Khmer friends I was looking to move to a cheap apartment... One had a brother who was happy where he lived and took me by to check out an empty one. I paid $20 to paint it and decided to take it.
$60 per month, unfurnished... No contract. $50 deposit that I'll get back if I give 2 weeks notice.....

First place came through a friend who owned a GH and knew what was available. Second was through a motodop and letting people know we wanted something. Third through putting the word out with local business owners, reading bulletin boards and going around looking for signs that said "for rent." It's all networking with whatever you got, except for those who get them through work. This ain't in PP, but I'd do the same there.
Oh, forgot to mention my first apartment. Walked around the area I wanted and saw a sign (for rent). Bargained down to $90 for a beautiful small place fully furnished with a/c.
I think he started at $150ish. No lease with 1 month deposit. Given back with 30 day notice, which I gave.

Wow. How long ago was this?
I first moved in there almost 2 years ago. They have since raised the rent up to $100, which was still a deal, at least on the barrang circuit. Near Wat Phnom.kurty_boi wrote:cambod wrote:Oh, forgot to mention my first apartment. Walked around the area I wanted and saw a sign (for rent). The Governor wrote:I took a trip to Bangkok to visit a friend from back home, he was out there on holiday for a couple of weeks, so it's his first night in the City of Angels and his first time in Asia he wants to do it all and see everything so were all over the city drinking everywhere from Siam Square to Nana to Pat Pong and after a few balloon bursting shows and a skin full of Chang we end up in some drinks den on the Khao San Road.
Phil then says to me 'Don't look now but there's a couple of girls over there giving us the eye', so discreetly turn around to see a couple of unconvincing lady boys with all the feminine charm of ZZ Top staring over, so being the good mate that I am I explain to him that they are a pair of 'real' cuties and maybe he should go and chat them up, never being a shy man he jumps to his feet and starts up a conversation and before he knows what’s hit him he's getting a kiss and a bit of a fondle thinking his lucks in he's asking me if I’ve got any rubbers which I haven't so he bolts off to the 7-11 and comes back with a Cameroonian lad he's met on route and there and then the cover of our cross dressing friends is blown as Phil’s new found friends tells him that his little Eve is in fact an Adam then Phil in a drunken slur blurts out a few choices expletives which enrages one of the girls to throw here coke all over him, before I have chance to tell him a lot of these fellers punch above there weight he launches an attack to rekindle some of the pride which is disappearing down the drain along with the coke that is dripping off of his clothes, before we know what’s happened there are lady boys coming at us from all directions swinging handbags and kicks jumping off of tables and pulling off moves reminiscent of a Bruce Lee flick, then the realisation dawns upon us of the fact we are getting the shit kicked out of us by a crowd of men in dresses so we make a brake for down the Khao San Road with a mob Stiletto in hand lady boys making chase.
Of course we escaped I think the adrenaline caused by the terrifying sight of six men in dresses wanting our blood gave us the edge.
Any one else have a Kodak moment they missed?

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
WoW, Tapatalk has issues. Luckily (i hope) they just rolled out an upgrade on the Android market, but they never seem to address my issues.Lucky Lucan wrote:It's from about 2005, the previous owner of the site wrote it.cambod wrote:wtf, where is this from, I've never even seen this before?
