Greetings,
My 1st post on here, so I will try not to appear too obtuse. I also did a search on the topic and found a thread that disintegrated into a confusing heap of accusations and whatnot. So I digress, my plan is to set foot on SEA soil in early November with my bike to do the same shortly after. I have ridden extensively in Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines but always rented in country and never had to cross borders. I plan to ship my own bike over because I will be riding in the region for quite some time (1 year minimum/business visa etc), it is set up the way I want, and I know it is rock solid. Questions:
1. I never plan to ship the bike back to the US, and the intent is to reside in Cambodia at least part of the year for the foreseeable future, so I will have a Cambo address etc. Would it be best to just ship directly to PP, or somewhere else (Langkawi, Laem Chabang etc) and then ride over the border at Trat or Koh Kong? Bottom line: Is customs in PP a total nightmare or should I ship somewhere more "professional"?
2. I plan on riding all over the region regularly while maintaining a "home base" in Cambo, so several border crossings/month. Should I just import permanently in PP, get plates, and eat the fees/regs etc, or do some type of temp import/pay fines as they happen based on my travel intentions described above?
Never been through this, so thanks in advance for any insights.

Only a 20 mile ferry ride from the duty-free port in Langkawi to the Malaysian mainland. I've always wanted to ride up through South Thailand anyway, only been as far South as Koh Lanta.
