road blocks are generally in town... you really shouldn't need high beams in town anywhere, and can blind the oncoming with them (thus why they'd be illegal).Barang_doa_slae wrote:My car is fitted with factory HID head lights.
The American setting for high beam height was too low for Cambodian roads and their "no rear lights traffic".
After I adjusted them it was still too weak to drive any faster than 80kph so I had the car fitted with HID high beam. Bought and installed in Thailand 5 years ago. 1 dead ballast 2 years ago, had it replaced at VKS garage that sells sport exhaust etc... No problem since.
Bear in mind that local blue boys call them "laser" and say they are illegal. They sometimes target them when checking cars at PP road blocks.

Those who begin coercive elimination of dissent soon find themselves exterminating dissenters. Compulsory unification of opinion achieves only the unanimity of the graveyard.

Wish someone would tell the people in town here about that...OrangeDragon wrote:road blocks are generally in town... you really shouldn't need high beams in town anywhere, and can blind the oncoming with them (thus why they'd be illegal).Barang_doa_slae wrote:My car is fitted with factory HID head lights.

Thanks OD, I must be one of those dumb asses drivers with high beams on in town...
In any case they don't need to see your high beams on when pulling you for lasers at towns road blocks... They just need to look at your bulbs and they know if they are or not.
Now if I agree they should be illegal for blinding people on the road, I do think that a truck, tuktuk or a remorque with no rear lights at night on a high way is criminal/suicidal...
Anyway not to brag but in SHV the cops are more likely to ask me to give them a high beam lighting at an accident scene in the middle of the night than pull me over...

High beams HID's only...AK87 wrote:I have factory HIDs and no one's given me any trouble before.
As promised, a picture of the flash relay which replaces the original after changing the signal bulbs with LEDs. In fact, the picture is useless, but I can't make a better one (detail) since the bike was stolen shortly after the conversion.
These relays are normally available at the shops where the sell the LEds.
I didn't in investigate it in detail but my guess is that the flashing/blinking of the bulbs is based on the principle of a deforming bi-metal which opens/closes. Since the LEDs use a lot lower current the time between open/close is much longer. (Read: a much lower flashing frequency, it looks like the signals LEDs keep burning). But as stated before, I'm not absolutely sure and it can depend on make/type of motorbike and type of LED (with or without built-in electronics). I used the ones shown below and on my Suzuki Smash it was a problem.

I highly recommend the xenonpro if it's familiar to you/anyone, because I purchase LED lights from them and it's really amazing 100% quality,
just search that xenonpro on
by the way I will take a pic of it, wait for my next reply

I always loved cars. I used to play 'Need for Speed' all the time... any racing game.

beige mafia stop everyone here. don't suppose they care but is it just LEDS? Xenons?
I switched mine to LEDs a few months back and no issues at all. The main thing is to not have them on during the day time - that stupid bloody law still exists. My bike is American so had running lights on by default, had to fit a custom switch to turn the whole thing off by default instead and then can switch it on at night with the usual high/low setting. not a blink from the boys in blue.
