Can i get an International DL with my current Khmer license?
^ And when you guys say "no problems" do you mean you've had to show police your license and they accepted it, or do you mean you haven't even had to show it to police, therefore you actually have no idea if it's a problem or not?
Because I've been driving 5 years in Cambodia with no license and has "no problems."

I asked the DL office for one but they do not issue them. They might still exist as I remember reading about them.
For foreigners in Cambodia IDL are ok but only on a tourist visa.
Same as Thailand, they let me in with my Cambodian car and DL. Over the years I've been pulled over for speeding or DL check everywhere and numerous times... still ok, but I know that neither my European nor Cambodian DL are really legal as their law requires an IDL or thai DL. Hence the compulsory assurance would probably be void if I am responsible for an an accident.
I asked my Ambassy for an IDL they said not possible as residing here...
I considered obtaining a thai DL but as I was not a resident there were too many issues to deal with for a 2 years validity.
As for Cambodian DL some people locals and expats call it ASEAN DL, I doubt so very much. A yearly expat rip off it is for sure (locals 5 years) and don't loose it, for whatever obscure administrative reason they will only edit it 3 times. On the third time when told so I asked what if ? i was replied "no more, you stop driving"

Thanks for the replys.
I contacted the car rental offices in the states, as long as my cambodian driver license is in English I can use it to rent a car with them.
If it is not in english I would have to get a International Driving License.
Seems like it should be okay right ?
Here a photo of Cambodian driving license i pulled from google.

It is on topic if you ACTUALLY READ THE POST, he/she can use his/her Cambodian licence over there so no need for an international.Good for you. I've been drivin' more than 15000 kilometers with my european driving licence in USA - no problems.
But back to topic: where to get IDL document with your Cambodian driving licence in Kingdom?
Engage brain before fingers. K. Thanks
Yup have been pulled over a few times in Texas and up North, NZ licence fine.cambod wrote:^ And when you guys say "no problems" do you mean you've had to show police your license and they accepted it, or do you mean you haven't even had to show it to police, therefore you actually have no idea if it's a problem or not?
^Cool.
I'm frightened thinking about all the people in the States legally driving on these foreign licences just because they happen to be in English...

Please read topic before you answer.
Stop writing nonsense what doesn't interested anybody. Open new topic if you want to tell everybody what kind of sheep you can drive with your licence etc.
No offense
Pardon my engrish, thanks you.

According to the link i posted it's fine... and the IDL is just a translation in case they can't read it. I find that a little surprising though... given that traffic laws are so different and the Us are generally such assholes about violating them.cambod wrote:^ And when you guys say "no problems" do you mean you've had to show police your license and they accepted it, or do you mean you haven't even had to show it to police, therefore you actually have no idea if it's a problem or not?

For many foreign licenses it wouldn't concern me, as they have strict rules, but for here it certainly does. Like others have said, try driving Cambodian-style in Europe, for example, and you'll find yourself pulled up and in a whole world of shit in seconds.cambod wrote:^Cool.

What's actually worse, in my mind at least, is that other drivers won't anticipate you. Here we slow down for green lights because we know some jackoff may decide to make a dash for it... in America they won't see you until after the airbag deflates.Lucky Lucan wrote:For many foreign licenses it wouldn't concern me, as they have strict rules, but for here it certainly does. Over-read that one...cambod wrote:^ And when you guys say "no problems" do you mean you've had to show police your license and they accepted it, or do you mean you haven't even had to show it to police, therefore you actually have no idea if it's a problem or not?

Cambod, I really hope I didn't understand that line or that you were joking.
Driving a car in cambodia (and elswhere) with no valid license is the stupidest idea ever. In case you are involved into a crash that caused serious injuries and/or death, it won't matter who was responsible for the crash. Being the barang without DL, you weren't suppose to be there at all. Therefore you will be considered as sole responsible and charged accordingly with first degree murder or manslaughter attempt. As you can imagine the fastest track to enter a world of shit with prey sor inmates as new buddies...
