I have a 2007 Suzuki Step. I know they are petrol hogs. I was wondering what anyone who has ever driven or had experience with a Step has gotten as far as KM/Liter.
I get about 27 km/l . I have a pretty bad carb and some front brake rub. What has everyone else experienced. I realize my 2007 is old.
Anyone who knows Suzuki Steps

I suggest you stop buying piece of shit bikes all the time. Spend an extra couple hundred dollars next time so you don't have to go through this kind of hassle every few weeks.DetroitMuscle wrote: I have a pretty bad carb and some front brake rub.
How many have you been through?

Change the damn carb and fix the brake!
You should get 40km/ph at least. Steps are shite on gas when not maintained well, a lot better in good nick.
Go to T.W.O, or similar, and spend some cash on that thing.

I keep mine in a bad state to avoid it getting stolen, just changing the oil, and the brakes, especially the rear is important to remember to keep up as well around here with all the gravel and dirt on the road, otherwise seem to get started every day, just a few service checks on this one, but only for city driving, being a 2007 it will probably turn into a smoking fireball if going 90mph to SNV.

what makes you think your carb is bad? Recently I bought a 2009 step. it was never surviced i think and used 23km/l, top speed 80 when it would hold back. when i removed the air filter it was clear why, it was totally full with the red dust a wonder it ran at all. after a new filter and cleaning the carb(the jet was blocked in the upper part) it does 29km/l at 90 km cruising speed, 40/l in low speed. a step is a very good scooter, but here people like to make their cars and bikes shiny, better is to take care of the moving parts.

I have had 2 bikes since I moved here 10 months ago with this step being the second of the two....cambod wrote:I suggest you stop buying piece of shit bikes all the time. Cambod exaggerating things...... NEVER!
I don't think you realize how LUCKY you were to get that 300$ Wave you drive around which you claim has had no problems at all.

Yes, you've had 2 piece of shit bikes since you've moved out here and you're already in dire need of another one (or did you just get yet another one?). Don't buy another cheap piece of shit. You'll regret it (again).DetroitMuscle wrote:

That's a lot of bikes in 10 months.
And I'm pretty sure this is your 3 bike (if you just got it).
The first one you got was a TOTAL piece of shit, which you promptly sold (maybe to AK?), and now you have another one, or are you currently still looking?
My point/advice stands.

So, I have an '06 Suzuki Step (sold to me as an '08, but that's another story entirely) ... and it gets pretty terrible mileage, and I imagine many of the parts are quite old/originals. Can anyone provide quick tips/information on how to tell if your carburetor is bad or if any filters need to be replaced? I take it in for oil changes/minor maintenance, but it'd be nice if I could get an idea of what needs to be done myself before taking it in to a mechanic and possibly getting screwed.

Change air filter, buy a new carb or a carb rebuild kit, change the spark plug, adjust valves, change oil/filter and that should prompt some improvement.
If not then you may want to check your right wrist. . .

Changed my oil/oil filter today, and I'll be asking about the rest tomorrow when I take it in to replace my muffler and get my front brake cleaned (I'm planning a trip to Kampong Cham this weekend, maybe not a best idea on my street tires, but I have a spare innertube in the seat, so we'll see). Apologies for the noob questions, which valves need be adjusted and in what fashion? Thanks for all the help ... if I can shave some money off my monthly gas bill, I'll bring you a bottle of the mango pulp wine I have fermenting in at the moment ... cheers, and thanks!Jackal wrote:Change air filter, buy a new carb or a carb rebuild kit, change the spark plug, adjust valves, change oil/filter and that should prompt some improvement.

An engine like the one in your Suzuki is 4 stroke and has four valves. Two are for fuel intake and two are to allow exhaust gases to be released from the combustion chamber in the engine.comeandgetit wrote:Changed my oil/oil filter today, and I'll be asking about the rest tomorrow when I take it in to replace my muffler and get my front brake cleaned (I'm planning a trip to Kampong Cham this weekend, maybe not a best idea on my street tires, but I have a spare innertube in the seat, so we'll see). These need adjusting every 8/10000km, depending on what you ride.
Unadjusted valves can cause hard starting, increased fuel consumption, engine noise and, most importantly, can fail and drop into the engine causing a fucking nasty mess of brokenness.
Adjustment is quick and easy for a competent person ( a mechanic, such as Tony at T.W.O or another). If asking a khmer to do it then the khmer for Valves is "Val".
But, if you want better mileage - you need to also attend to the carb. Replace it or have a rebuild kit bought and fitted. That's got to be your first suspect on a bike with crappy mileage.
