Looking for a Two-Stroke Dirt Bike
Looking for a Two-Stroke Dirt Bike
Any motoheads out there know where in PP one can get an old used 125 two-stroke? Preferably a late 90's early 2000s Yamaha YZ. I've been out of the bike-shop-loop over the last few years.
Or a CRM, KDX, CR, etc, would work as well.
I just want to get back into riding and want something simple and scrappy that won't break the bank. Obviously I'd love a WR or CRFX, but those are all 2-5 grand.

Thanks ricecakes, I'll look in to that. Sounds like its right down my alley.
Which brings up an interesting point; I bought my first CRM in 2002 for $1200 from Vay's. It was a 2000 model. Three-year-old bike in perfect condition for 1200 bucks! I also bought a 98 YZ125 the same year for $1500.
Today, there's a guy who has a 99 CRM for sale for $2300. There's a 1996 CR125 on Khmer24 for $1500. In what world do motocross bikes actually increase in value over the years? Why the huge spike in price? If I had just held on to my CRM, I could have made a cool grand profit and nearly doubled my money.

Hi. I guess back in 2002 you could have the Khmer prices. Now you have the white prices. Of course no local would pay 2300usd for a CRM. 2 years ago I bough one CRM for 500usd from a Khmer friend. And before a 125CR for 320usd! Khmers don't like 2 strokes...
BTW a friend of mine has a 250CR alu frame for sale for 2100usd.

CR125 for $320? That's what I'm talkin about. Let me know if you come across anything like that in the future, I'm always interested in cheap two-stroke playbikes. My appetite for train-whiste 125 power and sub 90 kilo weight is insatiable. Perfect for a Saturday afternoon of fun. Let me know if you want to sell yours....
Part of it could be tax as well. Import tax in the late 90's/early 2000's wasn't as enforced. I was able to get my YZ plated and registered for nothing back in the day, unlike nowadays.

I don't have any bike at the moment. I ve just sold my CR500.
I saw on khmer24 a 250 gas gas for 1400usd, and a 125cr 1500usd.

I had a old Yama DT 125, for awhile it was fun using both hands and feet instead of just my right hand on my Click, but when i became more conscious of blowing smoke into the faces of other drivers and esp children at red lights, for no reason other than my fun, I felt a selfish barang. it was a bike for the open spaces, not BKK.

Yeah, I live in the wide-open spaces and miss the two-stroke rush.
Yamaha DT, nice. Had one of those back in the mid-90's.

I had a CRM 250 when I lived in Siem Reap. It was my first ever dirt bike, and I got it pretty cheap off a well known restauranteur, who is now sadly no longer with us. The bike scared the living shit out of me, but I was determined to tame the beast.
On one of those first few rides, blasting down NR6, getting used to gear changes and finding neutral, it cut out. I could not get it started, and it's a heavy lump to push even a short distance. I checked the fuel tank - it still had fuel, but not much. I tried kickstarting it again and again, and kept scratching the inside of my ankle as my foot slipped off the lever. Bastard bike.
As luck would have it, I'd konked out at the junction to the large golf course, and there were some kind of uniformed goons on the corner, dressed impeccably in white, eyeing me with curiousity. They called me over, and offered to help. They asked if I had fuel, and I said yes. They tried to bump start me half a dozen times. They were so enthusiastic, and clearly very fit dudes who welcomed the opportunity to do something physical instead of just standing and waiting for whoever it was they were waiting to salute. After the fifth try, I'd noticed that their crisp white uniforms had become totally speckled with oil/shit out of the exhaust! I said nothing, hoping it would fire up and I could get away before they noticed! On the sixth attempt, it spluttered, died, then spluttered and I kept it going, raised a hand to wave thanks, and they cheered as I roared away. I stupidly turned south on NR6, got 200m and it died again. Bastard bike.
I wheeled it to a little mechanic, who immediately said to put some fuel in. "It's got fuel," I told him. He shrugged and said he couldn't do anything, but his grandad said he'd tow me back to town for a few bucks. He tied a rope to the back of his dream, and the only way to tow me safely (or at least the only way that felt relatively safe) was for me to wrap the end of the rope around my hand. It cut in like a bitch, and it was a fair trot to Siem Reap. Bastard bike.
I had time on the way back to ponder why it wouldn't start. I had little mechanical knowledge and no experience with dirt bikes. It had fuel, so I was stumped.
When I got it close to home, both hands throbbing and red raw after swapping hands on the rope every few minutes, I thought I'd stick some fuel in before I'd get a mate over to look at it. As soon as it had fuel, it roared into life first time. It was the fuel all along. Bastard bike.
After a few more rides, I took it up to Preah Vihear at Christmas. Hooning along, flat out on that thing, is still one of the scariest and thrilling experiences I've had in the Kingdom. I sold it soon after and went back to what I feel safest on - bicycles.

Sounds like you had the fuel petcock to 'On', which means its warning you you only have 1 liter left, to switch to 'Reserve', which goes to the bottom of the tank.
If you knew anything about bikes, all you had to do and save yourself all that trouble, is to turn the petcock 180 degrees from 'On' to 'Reserve'. That simple.
The bike saying, "Bastard-dolt owner, just turned the darned petcock! Then I can reach the rest of the fuel!"

There's a little Kawa 2stroke 125 for sale near me. Bit battered, but had a play with it and it shifts well enough.
He wants $450 for it, whicj maybe a bit steep, but can probably be haggled.
Will put up some pics when I pass.

maybe that, it was years ago. I've not touched a dirt bike since I sold that one. I was the first to admit I didn't know what I was doing with a two stroke.TristranandIsolde wrote:Sounds like you had the fuel petcock to 'On', which means its warning you you only have 1 liter left, to switch to 'Reserve', which goes to the bottom of the tank.

same with fourstroke , also has a valve , when it stutters from lack of fuel turn that switch and you have a liter left
