One-stop solar shop
I know of an organisation that's been running one as a social-enterprise mobile coffee shop for a year or so.
If anyone is serious about buying these, pm me for an introduction.

The only way anyone is using is if they plug it in at night or rarely using it and for short distances.Chuangt2u wrote:I know of an organisation that's been running one as a social-enterprise mobile coffee shop for a year or so.

Why not get yourself a electric bicycle and try charge it with a solar panel you will see that even that is not feasible and you'll save yourself some money.
Never try to run refrigerator with solar panels not possible without special refer design just for solar, very expensive and they take a lot of panels. Use a propane/butane or kerosene refrigerator only takes a small flame like small lantern size and very economical one 5 pounds of propane lasted me more than 3 months of continuations use and was the size of a large deep ice chest.
even these guy have to stop and let the batteries charge and the price is more than most people ever spend for electric bill
and the closest thing to a solar bicycle that one can get

It's great to see stuff like this being tried in Cambodia, but assuming this isn't tongue-in-cheek marketing hyperbole I spy (yet another) case of NPD in the KoW:
eventually I want to take over the whole [motor] industry, where in the next five years there will only be solar on the road
It's a tuk tuk fitted out as a point of sale for coffees and other drinks. It arrives at a spot, stays there a few hours, then moves to another spot, much as a hotdog stand or burger / kebab trailer might do back home.oxbowlarry wrote:The only way anyone is using is if they plug it in at night or rarely using it and for short distances.Chuangt2u wrote:I know of an organisation that's been running one as a social-enterprise mobile coffee shop for a year or so.

Been running for getting on for a year, now, iirc.
BTW, are gas fridges available in Cambodia - would save me a fortune.
I'm really surprised they're only using 24 volts and not at least 48. While I am far from the electric vehicle expert, I have built a little electric "Cub" (mini Cub) with a hub motor and AGM lead acid battery pack (deep cycle so they handle deeper discharges much better), and even with a 48 volt motor the Cub felt like it had about double the torque but half of the power of a good running 50cc. Topped out at around 35-40 kph and was out of go after 20 km ish. Controller efficiency was only 80-85% ish and the motor (1000W) was roughly the same, but in all the range was dismal (maybe 20km real world) and at 150 kg it was a real tank as well. And that's with a Cub, I can't imagining halving the voltage in something much bigger, doesn't seem like a good idea.

I had a Engel 40 litre fridge running for 5 years without issue with only 120w of panels and the wind generator, which generally outputted less than the solar. At a certain setting I could put cans of soft drinks in there and they would go all icy and grainy a bit like half frozen Slugie or whatever drinks you buy at 7-11 in Thailand.oxbowlarry wrote:Never try to run refrigerator with solar panels not possible without special refer design just for solar, very expensive and they take a lot of panels.
As for thermo electric fridges, they are a poor second choice in performance. The design of the fridge is important. You really need a chest design to keep the cold in when opening the door. Also a fridge full is more efficient than a empty one.

now using one of the tuk tuks would work out for what they use it for to go a few kms stop all day then return at night but not for any kind of transportation like one whould use a motorbikeChuangt2u wrote:It's a tuk tuk fitted out as a point of sale for coffees and other drinks. So then like I said you didn't run a refrigerator on solar you used generators and the truth is you had to run the thing everyday.sorrynothingpersonal wrote:I had 4 x 6 volt 105 amp/hr golf cart batteries on mine set up for 12v,120 watts of solar and an AIR 400w wind generator. A 12 volt 2 stroke generator that put 30 or 15 amps was used when the battery was 12.2 volt or so. I ran a 40 litre fridge and a 450 inverter that powered a big stereo and a laptop in later years. I eventually got a 1000w 4 stroke quiet honda and a 50 amp battery charger, a busted panel or two, ditched the wind gen, and used various smaller batteries for better sailing performance that never worked as well as the 4 golf cart ones. My boat was pretty small and i didn't have a diesel.
Why anyone would have a big stereo on a boat is beyond me you should use 12v stuff there are plenty of kick ass stereos for auto that work better.
Anyone setting up a system should steer clear of inverters too you loose too much when you convert energy again use 12v stuff they have everything but get quality stuff.
If you mean the windmill was and Air Marine 400w model they don't really start producing power until about 30 kts.
You probably bought the $1,000.+ the 1000w honda inverter because they are whisper quiet because you and your neighbors where tire of hearing the generator running.
Why would you be trying to convince people that these solar tuk tuks are a good idea ?

I don't know if they have gas refers here but while riding around in a tuk tuk in PP I saw a showroom with appliances by one of the gas companys, maybe modern gas, and I thought I saw a refer.
But ironically I never, since age 18, lived with electricity from a grid till moving here in 2008.
The refer we have now is from Korea,i think, a fancy 3 drawer energy efficient model bought at on of the stores who import used appliances. So possibly they could get one.
Yes refers use a lot of power if I was you i'd just contact sorrynothingpersonal he can show you how to set up your own magic system that runs a 40 liter refrigerator with a single 120w panel.

Just thought I'd share that with you.
