Demineralised water
I am about to have my car radiator replaced by an new after market one that was brought from the US.
Akira sorted me out already about the coolant liquid by advising me to check the Total coolant that is indeed equivalent to the recommended OEM one.
It is usually advised to mix the coolant with 50% demineralised water.
I am betting the local mechanics would use tap water so I better bring my own.
The usual bottled drinking water should be already better than tap as it goes through an ion treatment resulting in most minerals being taken off but I am guessing it isn't real demineralised water still.
I never saw some (in the west it is quite common as it is used for many applications like for steam ironing) but I never saw any for sale here.
Any suggestions ?

Honestly I've never heard anyone use demineralised water in their coolant.
Any issues with mineral deposits will be eliminated by the coolant liquid.
Did akira advise you to do it?

Problem solved.
My cleaning lady upon hearing my demineralised water need along with some explanation that it was basically clean rain water, will bring me the 5 liters I need tomorrow morning.
You can take this as a nice winning point in the PP vs SHV match as I would not consider any PP rain water even if it was to fall directly in my radiator.

Why would you buy an aftermarket radiator from the US? There are thousands here from the same factory in that supplies the US market. After all the cars here are all ex US mostly. Unless it's some weird make and model that nobody stocks.

Lots of antifreeze comes pre mixed with water like what you buy at the honda dealers. You can get a water filter from the market they have a container with mineral rocks for the bottom reservoir that re-adds the minerals just leave that out of the tank. Then you can put it back to use for drinking when radiator is full..

@JB He does have a really weird car, no chance of finding anything in Cambodia for it.
I've heard from a two separate people that some pharmacies sell distiller's water, but I've never checked.

Catch the water that runs out of the air conditioning, its as good as demineralised! You could use the melted ice taken out of a defrosting fridge too. Better than tap water for batteries but for the rad, water from the big blue bottles should be fine.

Oh man. It's not that 1970's convertible blue MGB (or whatever it was) that was driving up 136 st few nights ago... with a barang behind the wheel... must be a nightmare on parts. Not to mention hot. And no security from thieves.

Nope it is not. I actually always professed that convertibles in this country was an heresy.
Just back from the garage, they did a good job, water temp is fine, actually exactly the same at idle as it was before but more test driving while close by the mechanic will be needed (I was brought an ODB2 reader too so it helps precise monitoring)
Will post a pic of the set up to give you more clues about the car
