I'm buying a new car(never been driven in Cambodia) and the Road Tax is $400 per year.
First assumption is that the "Year" is from January 01 to 31 December.
As it is now 23 October do I have to pay the full year or just the time left in the current year?
Assume I have to pay the Road tax before I can get Registration and the Safety Inspection completed?
Thanks
Road Tax
Why didn't you ask your dealer? The normal situation is you buy a sticker at ACLEDA bank, I'm sure they're not willing to sell you just a small slice of it.Thrifty wrote:I'm buying a new car(never been driven in Cambodia) and the Road Tax is $400 per year.

Its not by calendar year.June or maybe July to the next year.Sorry but its been a few years since I went through it.I bought the truck in March and thought the sticker would be good for the rest of the year.Wrong!! Was late and it cost me double. Not a scam, its the law.Don't wait.
Plus, if you buy the sticker after January 1st, it's price doubles....Jackal wrote:Yeah, for the next calendar year it runs August to August. This is prime season for the coppers to be checking for tax. Buy it now.
The Dealer said to me, don't buy it and wait until next year. I've owned a car here for a few years so I know where to buy it. In most other places you pay on a pro rata basis.Kachang wrote:Why didn't you ask your dealer? It's a bit like buying a 12 month Visa when you're here for 5 months.
Thanks to the other Posters here.
You need to buy it now , or you will be paying double next year . You also need to get a Inspection Certificate , but the dealer should help you with that .

I've been advised that if you buy the vehicle after December 1, you don't need/ cannot buy a tax Cert for 2015.
I do understand about being fined a years fee if you don't have one in time.
Anyone know anything about this?
Thanks

I went to the Taxation office and the above is correct.
If you buy a new unplated car after 1 December you don't have to pay for this year.

There was an article somewhere recently urging motorists to pay their tax before the end of the year otherwise
penalty's would apply . So I guess if you buy a car in January , you won't be able to pay the tax until the 2016 stickers
are available , in August or whenever , it seems to change a little bit every year .
