My Triton is five years old now and despite full factory servicing is louder than it was and not as responsive. I wanted to run Liqui Moly Diesel Purge product strait into the fuel feed, but couldn't find anyone to do it - http://www.liqui-moly.com.au/diy-diesel ... service-2/.
Reading reviews this product performs miracles for Diesel engines that have been running on sub-grade diesel and now have dirty injectors. There are loads video's on YouTube of what this miracle juice ($18 a bottle) does to beat up thirty year old Merc diesel engines that have done the clock three times.
It just needs to have the fuel feed and fuel return directed to the Moly container rather than the tank. I showed a few local mechanics, but they didn't exactly fill me with confidence. The local Moly distributor who sell the product here just wanted to drop it straight into the tank.
With so many diesels here blowing black smoke and suffering from degraded millage, if a garage could offer this simple service they could make a killing. I would pay $100 right now, if someone could do this fifteen minute job.

Heat some vegetable oil (or coconut oil) (the oil needs to be hot to reduce viscosity) and run it neat through the fuel pump into the engine.
Then rev the crap out of it. It'll clean the injectors and smell like fish and chips. Win, win!
Don't forget to re-connect the diesel to flush the veg oil out.

It's not really their fault; last time I checked a few years ago, their problems were two fold:
1. They are sourcing from the State Petro-Chemical company in Vietnam - not ideal, but financially viable.
2. Consumers have not been properly educated and will not pay the premium required for Euro 5.
Since Chevron departed, putting Cambodia in the "too hard basket", Total are the only ones I would trust if I ran a Thai pickup for example. I suspect the variance among branches with petrol per C2U's examination, is probably repeated with diesel. But the fact remains, Total are the only outfit with systematic management procedures, which means they are the best by default. Anyone who has managed Khmers knows how brain splittingly hard it is, and I suspect any variance is down to individual branch managers, despite best laid plans from corporate.
On a macro level, when large pieces of heavy equipment continually fail due to the shitty fuel, something has to give. Excessive downtime has the potential to bite into a country's GDP.
Also, the automotive world is passing least developed Asia by with great speed, with cleaner and more efficient diesel engines demanding higher quality fuel and increased computer diagnostic requirements demanding higher levels of technical training; this is irrespective of whether you've a Range Rover Sport or a 20-tonne Komatsu Excavator.

Just picked up a new Truck which runs on Diesel, they recommend PTT.
The price for Diesel at PTT is 82 cents per litre versus 62 cents at Tela.
I guess there is a reason why many places charge 62 cents.
Guess I will stick with Total or PTT.
Petrolhead do you know anything about PTT?

Someone asked me about that via PM this morning.Thrifty wrote:Just picked up a new Ranger from RMA Ford today which runs on Diesel, they recommend PTT.

Basically, PTT in Thailand is supposed to be reasonably good. Have not heard much about them in Cambodia, but I sincerely doubt their systems and practices would be better than Total.
If I had a guess, I would say PTT was recommended to you because RMA has a corporate arrangement with PTT.
Personal experience; Mrs PH put half a tank of PTT 95 RON in the Merc and it caused mis-fires very shortly thereafter. She was religious with the Total Excellium before that, so we had a decent control.
Again, it could have been the PTT branch manager's fault, not the company. Hard to tell in Cambodia.

Whenever I am in Thailand I can indulge on the SHELL V-Power gasoline. Priced about 15% higher than their Super gasoline, it suits so well my engine it is like I have another 10 or 20 hp at disposal while any knock and hesitation felt in Cambodia disappear, top speed goes up a few Km/h and mileage per gallon improves..
For what it's worth, I've run a diesel Range Rover (09' 2.7) since I was first in Cambodia and went 80,000 km without a hitch using Caltex diesel. However, I have no clue or the slightest idea of the "quality", only that I never had an injector pump, injector, fuel pump, turbo etc. fail in that time, and that's rather lucky from what I gather from having gone through my fair share of RRs blowing up on me in the past in other countries.
I agree on Total petrol, it's all I have ever bought for any of my petrol vehicles though from Super Cub to Super Sport.

I have also been having misfire problems on a 650 single, so this thread has been a timely reminder to stop fiddling with my carby, plugs and everything else and get back to basics. Do any of you guys use a few cap fulls of metho in your tanks every few fills or run it on reserve after a full up to manage water in your fuel?
