Cam chain adjustment on FTR
Cam chain adjustment on FTR
My old CB clone had a very simple cam chain tension adjustment mechanism, but the ftr doesn't. At least not in the same place. Can't find much online in English. Anyone know how to do it on the ftr?
Clicked 'like' by mistake.
Anyway, maybe it has an auto tensioner. Have read somewhere that 'adjustment' can also be made on auto CCT

Auto. Left side of the engine on the cylinder facing the back.
I clicked "like" too, just for the hell of it.

It's an irreversible ratcheting type. Install and forget style.
This video explains better.

At least yours wasn't a brand new bike with 100 miles...*cough* KLR 650...*cough*DetroitMuscle wrote:Just had to replace one on my Kawasaki. $90
EDIT *I'll stick this to the moto guide since it refers to all 230cc Honda bikes, i.e. SL230, FTR, CB223, CRF230, Phantom (200cc) etc.

So there's either something wrong with it and it's not applying correct tension, or something wrong with my <3m old cam chain?AE86 wrote:It's an irreversible ratcheting type. Install and forget style.

Overall yes. It's been completely reliable, low maintenance. I do wish there was a Haynes manual for it. Great around the city, but I am increasingly tired of its lack of grunt on the highway. Loaded up with 2 and luggage it sits at 95, but doesn't love it and drinks petrol like a mofo. Cruising, it's much more efficient.vladimir wrote:epidemiks, are you happy with your FTR?
Spares costs?
Tyres are retardedly expensive, though there's a cheap k180 copy available here now. Other parts seem cheap enough, the engine looks almost the same as the SL 230, so I suspect they share some parts which would help with availability. Any 'FTR only' part does seem to be pricey and hard to source.

Thanks, I was thinking it may be a good bike to buy 2nd hand in a couple of years when the spares are more plentiful and therefore cheaper.
