Is the import tax lower? If yes, why? Or is this just a myth.
*Cheaper than sedans, SUVs etc.
Are pickup trucks cheaper in Cambodia?

Not really. Big engine cost more tax. Thats why prius are so popular now
There is less import tax but they are still bloody expensive.

By in large, they're Form D vehicles made in Thailand, meaning they attract no import duties under the ASEAN agreement. The VW Amarok, the Great Wall Whateverthefuck and the Tata Whogivesafuck would be the only light commercial pickups available in Cambodia, not originating in ASEAN.brownexile wrote:Is the import tax lower? By default this means they should be cheaper. There was a separate schedule for vehicle taxation concerning light commercial vehicles too, last I checked in 2013.
From memory a well specced Toyota Hilux was $44,000 a few years ago, which represented very good value in my opinion and was far cheaper than non-ASEAN CBU imports.
A lot of the fellas in the industry think the current Ford Ranger is best in class, btw.
Haha - my money’s on Playboy
Yes. Just consider a fully loaded Tundra 5.7 sells for ~80k$ imported, while a Lexus 570 sells for ~225k$. They probably retail for about 55k$ and 90k$ respectively in the US (+_ 5k$). There may be a luxury surcharge on the Lexus aswell though. I haven't checked the charts in a while but you're looking at about 30% versus 122% (or more for new luxury vehicles) import tax for trucks relative to others. The Tundra is a good 'get the fuck out of the way' for the price.
A nicely optioned Limited version is more like $45kRaybull wrote:Yes. Just consider a fully loaded Tundra 5.7 sells for ~80k$ imported, while a Lexus 570 sells for ~225k$. They probably retail for about 55k$ ...

Don't blame me I voted for Sanders
Sure, but I priced out a 1794 that 669mhh was selling earlier this year for i think 84k$ and it came out to 53k$ OTR if you bought in Cali. Never went to look at it though so I don't know what the numbers on the import papers were.jm wrote:A nicely optioned Limited version is more like $45kRaybull wrote:Yes. Lots of different Tundra models out there, and lots of dealer deals in the US that you can't score out here obviously.
The 1794 can only be called the Texas Knucklehead version. A ridiculous premium. Perfect for Cambodia.Raybull wrote:Sure, but I priced out a 1794 that 669mhh was selling earlier this year for i think 84k$ and it came out to 53k$ OTR if you bought in Cali.
