Thanks for the link Spigzy.
I've seen one of those starlink dishes last month in Berlin at the Tesla factory party.
It'd make sense to enter telephony on the back of that incredible network.
Apple has ambitions in autonomous driving? Bring it on.
Musk definitely has the means and brains to take them on and possibly make them (and other telcos) as irrelevant as ICE cars in the next decades. I'd never bet against the guy.

Sorry, just too busy to follow all that hyping stuff, I just stick to reality.logos wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 8:35 pmJeez V12, where have you been in the last 18 months or so? Have you been cut off from all news sources in the world and only log in to Khmer440 for enlightenment??We should not forget, that most of the Teslas businesses are just loss-leading. Largely, the only "profit" comes from CO2 rights, sold to other car manufacturers

Being a technician myself, do you know what a Tesla car needs to improve it? Do you?
Well, it needs a vroom vroom noise on it, like a petrol engine, so i dont nearly back into the fuckers when i pull out of a parking space in Aldi.
The focker came out of knowhere!
Scary for a dude that had to be insured €2k as a first time driver 2 years ago.
Sort that shit out Tesla!! Give it some vroom!!

Have a good laugh at Tesla's latest "self-driving" capabilities:
4-Min video of human driver interventions, every couple of blocks, to avoid accidents, at speeds < 30 miles/h.
This is really relaxed driving.
Tesla refuses to answer questions on this happening. Hmmmm, isn't that dictator style, just ignore everything you don't like ?
So, yeah, is it real, Tesla will release this full-autonomous driving feature "later this year" ? Maybe next year, maybe in 10 years, or does it just show, the AI will never pass the experience of a 14-year-old teenager, legally not allowed to drive a car ?

I'm not sure of your point here - it's "new" tech, of course it isn't perfect. But name another car manufacturer even close to the current level of Tesla self-driving; and I don't mean experimental, but a production road car. All of them from 'have plans', Tesla is already 6 years into the journey, their advantage as a first mover is just enormous. It's like the Model-T Ford all over again, sure there are other manufacturers making things, but nobody is in the same league. Look at the Rivian IPO this week - $80bn valuation, and they haven't even built a production car yet; now that's bonkers, Bezos funded or not.
Back on Tesla, take this CNN report example - the data from that drive is going back into Tesla; pretty certain they must have some way of indicating when a driver has taken back control of the vehicle, and then an expert is analysing that & working out new parameters for that situation; they'll see a pattern "car has struggled with barely visible metal fence without warning sign in road", or "Car tries to swerve to avoid rear ending a bicycle, but ignored oncoming truck"; all of those situations are completely programmable. With enough data, you'd cover every decision a human would usually need to make in a split second & have a programmed outcome for it. I see it as the future (and I hate it as a petrol head), so it becomes a question investing-wise of "who will get there first?" - at the moment Tesla is winning that hands down; a bit like when Jobs announced the iPod, Alan Sugar (UK Delboy self-made tech tycoon) said "Next Christmas, the iPod will be dead, finished, gone, kaput" - there have been other predictions like this for thr TV, telephone, x-Rays, etc; betting that "AI" won't ever be smarter than a teenager is dangerous turf in my book - the bigger danger being who on Earth controls the AI & what kind of morals they have, but that's another OT story!

It's not about "new tech", I like new tech, when useful, beyond the "just gadget" level.Spigzy wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 1:15 pmI'm not sure of your point here - it's "new" tech, of course it isn't perfect. ......
Other major car manufacturers already realized, the fully autonomous car (level 4/5) will not be possible and left that idea behind.
Study what is "Entropy" and you'll understand that the world is that much of a chaos, things can not be automated, except in specific circumstances (autobahns, etc, and even there, it is tricky, when something unforeseen happens). So, the driver will still be responsible for the outcome of unexpected situations. And, that'll scare the hell out of you, when you suddenly, completely unexpected and not prepared, have to take over the car command. Most people will fail with that.

I reckon Tesla pure electric cars are just too much of a leap right now.
Toyota's self charging hybrid's are ;
A) Less threatening to major car manufacturers, but more importantly financial institutions invested in combustion engine vehicles and oil.
B) Toyota have already proved its ready for mass market, rather than rich boys toys.
C) The infrastructure needs yo catch up for pure electric cars.
So Toyota is the daddy, with regards to making this a succesful business direction.
Bit like how things played out for the Tesla chap?

Yeah. Those pesky Teslas sneaking up behind you. It’s not like normal cars that you also can’t hear the engines unless they are a 20 year old diesel or a V8 M3.
Try looking.
Some of Chinas manufacturers are moving away from petrol engines, BYD for example..
they just can’t seem to get the European or Japanese quality though, which is why the rich and affluent drive them and not Chinese shite, even in their high end cars. FFS they make so many it makes Toyota look like a minnow.

And, when Tesla does have a "server problem", you'll have to walk.
Tesla's designed to let the owners walk at random
Guess, how this feature was received, when it would be a Merc or BMW ?
Is this normal ? Unfortunately, yes, it is. It's all software dependency, so expect it to break down. Just like the almighty Windows.
