What's the best free anti virus software nowadays? I have AVG but it isn't good enough. Every time I turn on my laptop the battery is at zero. I'm guessing someone's mining crypto on it.

Mining crypto when its turned off?
That would be quite a trick.

How bad is the Antivirus that’s included in windows already?

Is a free antivirus really worth it when you have a free one in windows already?

Actually, the windows native one seems to be about the best.

Empty battery: Maybe the battery is just baddddd, the battery charging does not work, or the windows shutdown does not work properly and the system keeps on running in some kind of zombie state.

You may want to force a real power down. From an admin command window do:

shutdown /s /f /t 0

It's okay as far as I know but many people are running cracked versions of Windows so I'm not sure if it works so well then.

Is the mains power plug fully in.

Difficult to tell from the appearance of how far in it is.

Tried to install it and don't have enough free space despite officially having over 600GB free. Might have to reboot the whole system to fix this.

"Defender also falls behind other types of AV software when it comes to preventing malware zero-day attacks. These happen on the day that the vulnerability is spotted by developers, and they’re a growing problem. Defender has been shown to be only 97.0% effective, and this is 2.5% below the industry average."

Microsoft Defender's reputation may take a little hit from this recent headline, "Critical Microsoft Defender Bug Actively Exploited; Patch Tuesday Offers 83 Fixes." Just be sure your system is frequently updating and you should be "relatively" safe, even if its your only protection.
