Hello,
I will be moving to PP this September, and I would like to get an xbox 360 & 32" HD TV setup in my apartment. I was half-considering taking my xbox slim with me, but would rather not lug it half way across the globe.
Basically I am wondering how much I would realistically pay for a second hand setup like this? And I know that Cambodian internet speeds are not the fastest, but is online gaming (xbox live) possible?
I am not that much of a geek, but I do like something to keep me entertained of an evening without being tempted to go out every night
Many thanks!
Xbox + Hd TV etc in PP

Consoles cost more over here, but a 32 inch can got for a little over 300usd (from Vietnam) or closer to 400usd here.

Would those $300 - $400 dollar tv's be decent quality (full hd etc) or some cheap Chinese imitation? By the sounds of it I would be cheaper bringing my own console with me I suppose. And anybody ever connect to Xbox-Live in Cambodia?
Thanks.
Thanks.

The prices I mentioned are for the LG 32inch model, this was about 8 months ago.
Never played on XBox live, but i've heard that the local 'arcade' has it here in Sihanoukville

Yeah consoles are cheaper in the west, so you're better off bringing it over if you already have one. I've never tried playing online but for decent speed you'll probably have to dish out quite a bit of cash. What would you say is the minimum speed needed to play xbox live without always being booted for being laggy?
Actually, you are better off buying one here. Mostly because shops only sell 'playbox' games which can only be played on the modded xboxes they sell here. If you bring your own console, you will have to buy legit games and then make sure they are also coded for the right region (the xbox is region locked). Last time I went to the Sorya, they were selling xboxes for 289$. The PS3 is also available but more expensive.
Regarding XBox live... Just forget about it. I can't play it because MS can detect my console is modded and therefore has banned my account from playing online. Doesn't matter, as a decent gaming Internet connection still costs an arm and a leg here (although it's very slowly catching up) so I'm screwed anyway.
Regarding HDTV, last time I checked them out, the cheapest model was a 32' LG TV which was going for 350$.
If you do buy a console and can't play online, come to my place and I'll kick your ass at FIFA11 .

Thanks for the replies.
I will probably just wait to see when I arrive. Looking forward to life in Cambodia

to the OP, it probably is best to wait. Phnom Penh has a high turnover and there is likely to be someone selling their TV when you get here, just have a look round the boards and the papers.
You need a chipped xbox to play the copied games here as Hemingway pointed out and as previously mentioned it is the latency that causes the issue, even if you can now get good download speeds at a reasonable price.
Hemingway, I'd like to here more about your banning. I read somewhere that Microsoft do a sweep in November and block modded consoles. If you google for articles about banning, there's a very heavy lean towards articles written in November but that might not be the case anymore.
How did it happen for you? was it immediate or did it work for a while?
Also, am crap at FIFA but will get my ass kicked for some multi-player gaming.
