it's even easier than that... the admins just have to flip the check box that allows it. however it's a bad idea. makes for some confusing shit as things that are quoted no longer line up with the person they were quoted from, people don't know who's who, etc.FreeSocrates! wrote:Technically it's possible, you just have to edit the record in the DB...

Unless the db is re-indexed.OrangeDragon wrote:it's even easier than that... the admins just have to flip the check box that allows it. however it's a bad idea. makes for some confusing shit as things that are quoted no longer line up with the person they were quoted from, people don't know who's who, etc.FreeSocrates! wrote:Technically it's possible, you just have to edit the record in the DB...

Quotes are just stored as part of the post text, including the name of the user you're quoting, so this wouldn't solve the problem OrangeDragon has mentioned.Jooooooooonny wrote:Unless the db is re-indexed.OrangeDragon wrote:it's even easier than that... the admins just have to flip the check box that allows it. however it's a bad idea. makes for some confusing shit as things that are quoted no longer line up with the person they were quoted from, people don't know who's who, etc.FreeSocrates! wrote:Technically it's possible, you just have to edit the record in the DB...
See how I've fucked around with your user name when quoting you?

exactly. the only way to do it would be a search and replace on every post for the string of the old user name and replace is with the new... which would run slower than fuck and open an exploit for someone to create the username of a common word, then change it to something else... replacing that word everywhere in the forums.Alex wrote:Quotes are just stored as part of the post text, including the name of the user you're quoting, so this wouldn't solve the problem OrangeDragon has mentioned.Jooooooooonny wrote:Unless the db is re-indexed.OrangeDragon wrote:it's even easier than that... the admins just have to flip the check box that allows it. however it's a bad idea. makes for some confusing shit as things that are quoted no longer line up with the person they were quoted from, people don't know who's who, etc.FreeSocrates! wrote:Technically it's possible, you just have to edit the record in the DB...

Would not changing the user name then be up dated in all old posts? Same as changing your avatar?
Any way my old posts are not worth following so if my name was changed no one would care.
Any way if i did make a new one I would tell every one who i was any way but i can not get past the question to verify Im not a bot in the sign up as new user Then it hit 5 time wrong and block me out.
Im sure its so easy but I got it wrong some how maybe misspelled it?

No, not in quotes. Unlike with the avatar, the signature and the name of the author (of the respective post, not of its quoted contents), this would need to be searched and replaced in each and every post, which is very inefficient. Oh, and there's also the chance of messing it up.AeroCambodia wrote:Would not changing the user name then be up dated in all old posts? Same as changing your avatar?
