My experience with Opennet
After looking into both Digi and Opennet, I signed up with Opennet late afternoon on a Saturday. Went with the $24 a month 4Gbps plan. The eager-to-please sales lady said installation would be 4 business days later. Yeah, right, I thought.
Thursday morning I got a call from the Opennet installer. He was at my place in BKK1. Unfortunately I was tied up doing business some distance away. I thought that'll be the end of my install for a long while. I was wrong. I agreed a time to meet the installer later on Thursday and that worked.
Two installers came on their motorbike, hauling reels of copper line (the $24 plan is ADSl). They worked for something like 3 hours stringing cable from a great distance away to my place. I went back to work while they did this and the installer called me again when he finally got the line to my place.
The installers came with nearly no tools and not a good idea of how to make a "tidy installation" of the cable around my place. I directed them on how to do this and they ere happy to follow my directions. As with many "tradesmen" in Phnom Penh, you have to be prepared to direct their work or you could get a job that is less than professional.
The installers connected my own modem/router (a mid-range TP-Link), loaded the codes into set-up, and away we went.
During the first few days, I've run speed tests at what I assume are peak traffic times - around 3pm and then again at 8pm. Download speeds range from 3.5 Gbps to a little over 4Gbps. Upload speeds around 1 Gbps. Not terrifically fast, but god enough for my needs at home.
We shall see if the Opennet speeds and reliability-of-service will stand the test of time.
But I'm happy so far.
YMMV

Open Net is a good provider.

Yep, my bad - I meant Mbps. Typing too fast on a Sun morning. Gbps would be unbelievable, especially here in the Kingdom.

Agreed. My only complaint is when they used to come and collect my monthly payment (it cost $1 for this service), they were always days/weeks late and I'd end up disconnected because the bill hadn't been paid.vladimir wrote:

I don't think they offer that anymore, and besides, if you pay 6 monyhs up front you can forget about forgetting to pay.
I very rarely have a problem with speed or connection.
Over the past 2 yrs your internet costs have dropped considerably.
Just how low do you expect them to drop to, and what would you consider an acceptable level of service for the price paid ?

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

I think the iSP should pay the customer. Say, $20pm?
Free pizza and beer would also make the hassle of the free service easier to swallow.

Yeh they do. They still come to pick up the bill from our place, and they are frequently very late. They only cut us off once, after the first month.the_purple_turtle wrote:Agreed. I've used Metfone, OpenNet and Digi (my current ISP) and OpenNet is way ahead of the other two.
Probably in a month or two I'll change back.

I use Opennet since 4 months and I can say only the best. Its fast for the money you pay for. No downtime at all. Better than shit metfone

Not Online..... its Conline....
I won't use them again.... so many cut outs.... Ezecom are great for the office.... have had couple issues but nothing major.
Opennet is awesome for home... only issue is getting them to collect payment.

Opennet is slipping. ive been with them for 4-6 months and had good speeds, then within the last month or so my connection has gone downhill. downloads not at the greatest speeds and my skype calls (audio not video) have also turned into dial up quality. ive rung them up numerous times asking for help to which they always reply "someone come tomorrow/soon" which never happens. even had one dick lipped lovely, lovely man put the phone down on me when i told him that "you guys have been saying youd send someone for 3 weeks."
Finally 2 fuck munchers come round my house and literally sit on my couch and say "opennet have bad connection and have bad server" and continued to sit there for a minute and then leave.

Well since my last post in July I've had no such problems. Sure the speed drops on occasions and will cut out once in a while, but I'd say it's fast and reliable 98% of the time. Downloading is still lightening-fast, and I wouldn't consider changing given the low price.

I just switched from Online to Digicell when I moved house.
Digi was down for most of last night and only intermittent this morning. Speed is considerably reduced from what I got under Online.
Their 24/7 helpline is always busy, and while they refer you to text for lodging service problems, they never seem to bother replying. Not happy.
