i imagine it's based on the "average connection speed"?
as in, the national average will go up 4 fold and is currently probably sitting around 512 because faster, more expensive, connections aren't actually that common?

Next week I need to get a monthly mobile phone/internet package set up for my phone and ipad. Not downloading too much on the move just for surfing. I've seen Cellcard XG mentioned here before, is this the best deal around currently or is there something better with Smart, Metfone or other provider. Thanks.

Don't know about the other cervices, but Cellcard's XG plans have actually gotten even better recently. I just saw the current offer a week or so ago and will be switching to that once my INET3 subscription expires.
The Smart LYE Plan sucks unless you want to buy a phone from them at the same time.
They don't sell internet dongles and with no sales of SIMs for your existing phone or tablet.
If you are happy to spend $300-650 you can choose from a limited number of phones:
1. LG Optimus G
2. LG Optimus G Prov
3. Nokia Lumia 625
4. Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (not available)
So despite the fact I had 2 LTE capable device on me at the time I could't do anything apart from buy more phones I don't need.
Kinda sucks big buffalo balls : 0

i picked up the LG Optimus G second hand (but in great condition) here for $150 (i think... it was a while ago) here. in fact when i bought it i was a little pissed it was LTE because it would add drain on the battery (so i heard) with zero benefit. now would probably be a good time to get one if you're interested in it and want something cheap. before the sellers realize there's a demand for LTE phones and up the prices.rob77 wrote:The Smart LYE Plan sucks unless you want to buy a phone from them at the same time.

What phone/tablet is 4G LTE in Cambodia.
I looked at Hakse Note8 http://www.hakse.com.kh/ProductDetail.aspx?ID=1190
it said 4G Network LTE (market dependent). But is this what they are selling?

I believe iPad Air, Mini and Mini Retina are all LTE compatible.mrfusion wrote:What phone/tablet is 4G LTE in Cambodia.

I got my iPad with all the main LTE frequencies so it isn't restricted like a US or EU only version.
Of course I can't try the 4G unless I buy a soon to be old model phone since LG, Nokia and Samsung all release their products on ever smaller life cycles.
I just want the fecking sim but if based on Smart Axiata's 3G network it will surely be abysmally slow and constantly disconnecting.
I can't wait until Cellcard launches 4G as their internet has always been consistent during my years of usage,
We discussed this before, but unless you had a phone I was unaware for a very short time, the phone you bought back in June for $150 or so was a Korean-model LG Optimus LTE (either an SU640 or an LU6200, I forget which). Your current phone is an Optimus G, and you paid way more than $150 for it. I'm just commenting on this in order to avoid people getting their hopes up or thinking the local shops are trying to rip them off. The international model Optimus G (E975) sells second hand here now for around $200-$250, which is still a very good price IMO. The trick is making sure you find one which has already been converted to international firmware so that it does not suffer from the 80 character SMS limit of Korean-market phones.OrangeDragon wrote: i picked up the LG Optimus G second hand (but in great condition) here for $150 (i think... it was a while ago) here.

Ah yeah, my confusion. These using the same model names over and over again things are fucking confusing. Anyway... I got an LTE phone for 150... lol.Buscador wrote:We discussed this before, but unless you had a phone I was unaware for a very short time, the phone you bought back in June for $150 or so was a Korean-model LG Optimus LTE (either an SU640 or an LU6200, I forget which). Has anyone been using this yet?
My phone has the LTE band that Smart uses but apparently you must only buy or use the exact model of phone to get the 4G connection. I would think if you buy the 4G sim it would work if your phone has the bands.
I will be arriving in PP in a couple of weeks and want to try it out. I sent an email to smart but I am not sure if this person is really knowledgeable. Below is my email and their response:
Can I us a Nokia Lumia 1020 phone and get the 4G signal on your network? My phone is unlocked and has LTE 800/900/1800/2100/2600 bands.
Dear Valued Customer,
Good afternoon from Smart!

They are shits because they only give you LTE if you buy new phone from them.
My multi band iPhone should be able to use exact same sim but "no can do unless buy new phone".
Frack that for a game of pong!

You could always try to see if they'll give you the manual settings for the models they list to activate LTE.
Then, see if you're able to plug them into your model. Sometimes a little guesswork is needed.
Worth a try.

I'm pretty sure other networks will get this, it's just a matter of time.rob77 wrote:They are shits because they only give you LTE if you buy new phone from them.

I live in thailand and I have been wanting to try 4G to see how it is like. When I arrive in PP in a couple of weeks I will go to the main office and see if there is anyway to make it work on my phone. This speed test in Sorya is very impressive.
