I'm not an avid photographer, but I have a few thousand photos on my computer that I have taken over the last ten years or so. What's the best cloud based photo storage system? Preferably free, preferably offering a lot of storage space so the photos aren't saved in shrunken size form.
I guess ideally I would love something that easily/automatically syncs future photos from my iphone right to the cloud based storage too.
I'm signed up for icloud, and it synced two photos from my phone to icloud when I first signed up for it, but since then I have taken hundreds of photos on the phone and none have been synced to icloud, even though I have "my photo stream" turned on.
what's the best photo hosting site/service?

I use photobuket for some images
Dropbox
and for my site Zenfolio but pay for that one.
I will NOT host my images in the cloud.

Most professional photographers, they use this platform as it allows you to upload to the max of 1TB.

Flickr is the most generous free one with 1TB. Make sure the privacy settings are correct before you start uploading.
I use Google Drive for automating the transfer but don't keep all my photos on there as you only 30GB free

And yet, you do:Phuket2006 wrote:I will NOT host my images in the cloud.
Do Photobucket or Zenfolio give you a private server for your files, do they guarantee your files won't be backed up or web-accessible? Otherwise, your stuff is basically "in the cloud"..Phuket2006 wrote:Dropbox

After 'imageshack' got all precious I started using 'postimage.org' and sometimes use 'imgur'.

The best answer is your own.
Get a domain name and then a web hosting package a not good one for bandwidth ect but for size is crazydomains. Install and set up your own website platform there are platforms designed specifically for photos and away you go. Your own website you can set permissions for different people that login to see different photos ect.

Probably Flickr. They just launched some easy to use Photo Upload tools for Windows and Mac. And their iOS and Android apps also auto upload to the service.
I do stuff with computers: www.xlconsulting-asia.com
Flickr recent redo makes it very attractive. Google is said to be rolling out its new Photos app next week. I use its auto upload feature but the UI bites. It's not limited to 30gb if you have the Google Drive space (I've got 1TB).Arnstar wrote:Probably Flickr. They just launched some easy to use Photo Upload tools for Windows and Mac.
