Putting permanent location pins and labels on Google maps?
Forgive my tech ignorance with this question.
I have Google maps on my iphone. I also have a terrible sense of direction. When I visit new places, I'd like to be able to pin places of interest in my app, label what they are, and then not get lost trying to visit them.
I know how to pin a location in google maps, you press down on the screen in the app and a little red marker comes up. However, I don't know how to label what that marker is, and more importantly, if I then make another pin, intentionally or accidentally, the first pin disappears.
Is there a way to make multiple pins, and label them, in google maps, so before I visit a new city I can pin all the places of interest and label them, like "museum," "McDonald's," "Faux Irish pub," "bar with reputation for slutty women," etc?
Or am I limited to one pin, unlabeled, that disappears if I accidentally press down too long on the screen later?
Should I switch to the mapquest or apple maps apps for better or permanent pins/labeling?

If you sign in to the app with a @gmail.com (or Google Apps) account, you can save your pin drops.

Swipe up! Aha! Thanks. Now, is there a way to label what it is?

Google "My Maps" allows you to add titled pins, new layers, and draw on a google map.
This can then be saved as one of "your" maps, or shared publicly, accessed via the internet or I believe viewed and edited via an Android app.
Long time since I have played around with it, but start at https://www.google.com/maps/d/ and click on the option to take a tour.
Here is a screen grab of what I did in five minutes.

How do I remove the yellow star after I have put it in (in the wrong place)?

Tap again on the gold star on the pop up card for the saved location.gavinmac wrote:How do I remove the yellow star after I have put it in (in the wrong place)?
