wanted - old broken electronics
i have really gotten into salvaging anything from old broken gadgets, phones, appliances, fans, computers, tvs, vcrs, dvd players, lamps, lighs, speakers, headphones, and anything else that plugs into a wall or takes batteries.
if you have anything laying around that is unfixable and are going to toss it, please message me here and ill quickly come and pick-up or ill pay for a tuc tuc driver to bring it to my home.
also once i get more confident in my repurposing skills, i will begin doing workshops to teach how to fix or repurpose into new usable items. and for anyone donating ill make a list and will give them a free workshop class in the future once they get going.
thanks

yes i am. kombucha is still my priority. since you last came over i now make apple cider vinegar, essential oils for skin, herbal extractions. glass bottles repurposed into functional reusable products, homemade wicks and candles, soaps. and my new creations are taking apart electronics and working on levitation with magnets, LEDs, graphite/graphene experiments...the_purple_turtle wrote:Still selling kombucha deanween? That was you, right?
my latest project is my aluminum melting kiln that i am firing up tomorrow to make some pure aluminum ingots and will start molding various metals to keep on hand to later mold into needed parts for various things that cost a lot to get shipped in.
kombucha profits support all these other projects i got. so im always broke, but have a ton of cool shit to play with and learn from. if any of the above interest anyone. ive been doing 1/2 day workshops on all the above. send me a message and a weeks notice and id be happy to host 1 on 1 lessons, up to 4 max in a workshop at once.

One of my relations does this to make forms. He buys old aluminum parts from the scrappers (I asked him about using old cans but for some reason he said they were no good). He then fires them up in an iron pot on a charcoal brazier with a metal shield, and a hand powered blower. When the metal is molten he pours it into sand molds. I used to mold stuff out of lead/tin and use plaster molds but aluminum has a melting point about twice as high as lead. Be really careful that there isn't any moisture/oil about when you're pouring. Give me a shout if you want any help on it.DeanWeen wrote: my latest project is my aluminum melting kiln that i am firing up tomorrow to make some pure aluminum ingots and will start molding various metals to keep on hand to later mold into needed parts for various things that cost a lot to get shipped in.

I'm looking for a 9V (US standard) power adaptor for my Phillips portable stereo. It blasts, but the power adapter doesn't out out power, it's been tested.
Or I just new a simple AC - DC multi-adapter ...

Good luck with the new hobby, DW!
I have plenty of old stuff at home. Will put them aside for you as I pick them up around the house.

Isn't there a decent amount of gold connectors in computers and such ?
There is about 1g of gold in about 35-40 mobile phones Source: *BBC, must be true - that's about $37 according to the Google service. What you need to spend to get that $37 out of the phones, no idea

There was a 60 Minutes on it. There' are whole villages in Bangladesh & China where they employ infants chained to the workbench, 100 hrs/wk to break up circuit boards and throw the metal into some horrendously toxic stew of acids with no masks, gloves, eyewear, or ventilation. This horror show could definitely be replicated here if it hasn't been already.
I think he probably has enough now. But mostly Samsung 7 phones.chkwoot wrote:Is DeanWeen still here? He hasn't posted in over a year. DW, if you are reading this, I have a lot of stuff I can donate. Please PM me.

Do you have a link for your classes, or more details, sounds interesting.
Have you attempted anodisation, eg aluminium?
