Hi
I just changed my old Cellcard sim card from a 3G sim card to a 4G sim card and my mobile battery now last half the time it used to. Is there such a thing as a faulty sim card that can drain your battery?
I also upgraded sim card on my second mobile from 3G to 4G but this has a Metfone sim and the battery life has not been affected at all.
Battery drain after sim card update

If you live on a area which is on the edge of 4G connection then your phone will repeatedly try to connect to 4G which will drain battery life.
Maybe metfone 4G is stronger than Cellcard 4G in your area?
You could try going into your phone settings and selecting 3G instead of 4G which may help (although will give you the slower speed)

It drains just the same if I am in my office on 240 street or in my apartment in the Tuol Tom Pong area. Tried to switch to 3G, but doesn't seem to make a difference. Will try to let it stay on 3G for the next 24 hours and test it out.
same here. I did not have a 4G SIM before and the battery is draining super fast ever since I inserted the cellcard SIM. I just thought that continuously searching for the best network connection drains it faster and that there is nothing that I can do about it (expect not using mobile data when I am on the WIFI at home). Are there any other settings or Android updates that might help?
Changed back to a 3G sim card today and everything is back to normal. Even when I only used 3G on the 4G sim card the battery drain was significant. Apparently the 4G Cellcard simcard is draining batteries on some mobiles. Upgraded my metfone sim at the same time and there was no change to battery life on my other identical mobile.

What kind of phone are you using?
I've noticed no significant difference on an iPhone.

Sony Xperia Compact. No difference on Metfone, but significant difference on Cellcard after changing to 4G. That's why I was wondering if a sim card could be defect in some way.
what a bummer. I am using a Moto G3 and wasn't planning on changing to Metfone.
Try sticking it up your pooper and see if that helps.
On a serious note, for Android: Settings -> More networks (it's under network connections) -> Mobile networks -> Network mode. Change to WCDMA only for 3G/4G or GSM only for GSM. That saves your phone from jumping between GSM and 3G/4G, because normally it connects to whatever has the strongest signal (just like when roaming except this is within your provider's network). Whatever has the strongest signal varies heavily in Cambodia, hence the battery drain for constantly switching networks.
And no, toggling that setting is not the same as toggling mobile data.
Bless

thanks! unfortunately that setting does not exist in Android 6.0.1 (maybe only in the Moto G version of Marshmallow?) the only thing I can do is to choose "Preferred network type".Alexandra wrote: On a serious note, for Android: Settings -> More networks (it's under network connections) -> Mobile networks -> Network mode. This works though.
