I have Grub but can't get to it unless I go through BIOS. Linux is the 1st option and will boot if I don't chose another option. Hmm... I'll have a look see at mintguide. Could have something to do with BIOS / boot from EIF file. I tried this options and get an error "no volume label". Just one of the many unanswered questions I have. The trials and tribulations of learning a new OS. For now I have to use this method... but no complaints... having an OS that doesn't freeze every 10 minutes is fantastic.
I disabled Secure Boot 1st thing before attempt #1. I also did the "defrag" and shrink size in WIN 10 prior so that I would have plenty of space for Linux partitions.

Check the BIOS boot order, maybe you need to re-order it.

Come to think of it... Select # 3 option ( Notebook hard disk ) is what I have to use to get to Linux. Never thought to reorder this lineup? Can't see the forest for the trees...I'm such a rookie.
Thanks

Do you have multiple disks? It sounds like grub may have been installed to another drive than what you have as #1 in BIOS boot order.
When you boot into the Linux drive, does it give you the option to boot into Windows?

One HDD. I shrank the HDD to provide for the Linux install... 160GB in total. When I did the install I created the Primary root, SWAP, and had to created the "Reserved BIOS Boot Area.Alexandra wrote:Do you have multiple disks? Something went wrong then for Windows to not be on that list, unless it's under "Advanced Options".

Okay...I'll check it out. I mucked up my 'terminal'. I added a command to be run at start up to disable the touch pad.Alexandra wrote:Something went wrong then for Windows to not be on that list, unless it's under "Advanced Options".

synclient space Touchpadoff=1
Now that command runs and the touch pad is disabled. Yeah,,, but when I try to open terminal, it runs on the desktop for 2 seconds and then disappears. I can't seem to open that command and change it. I was thinking to uninstall terminal and then reinstall it. Will that work?
Thanks

Remove the start up command and instead put it into your .xinitrc file in your home directory. That will make the command execute without opening a terminal. Make sure you follow the conventions of ending everything except the last line with "&".salvajeuno wrote:Okay...I'll check it out. I mucked up my 'terminal'. That should do the trick.
If you write the contents of your .xinitrc file here I can give you a version to copy.

According to the Microsoft Support page:
If you have installed earlier updates, only the new fixes that are contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your computer. If you’re installing a Windows 10 Version 1607 update for the first time, the package size for the x86 version is 144 MB and the package size for the x64 version is 263 MB.
We have released Cumulative Update (KB3176934) to Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14393 on PCs which will bring the build number to 14393.82. This Cumulative Update includes the same fixes as KB3176932 but with an additional fix: Improved download size optimization of updates.
EEEEERRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGG! Nutbars... as I have been patiently waiting for this fix to fix the fix, I got really excited when my system asked to restart just a while ago. After the update, I was working on this post when... SYSTEMS FREEZES ... just like everyday since the new 1607 build. I hope the idiots at MS will continue to work the problem.
Using dconf-editor, I was able to disable the command. I found 2 Profilename entries which I'm sure was part of my muck up. I think it would have been quicker just to do a fresh install. I like Linuxanother attempt:
Install dconf-editor and open it.
Go to org -> genome -> terminal -> legacy -> profiles -> <Profilename> (most likely there is only one profile, so select this):
Disable the value use-custom-command.
Terminal should now open and stay open
