Website Search Engine Optimisation
Website Search Engine Optimisation
Hey guys, I know google have started taking a harder stance on people using "tricks" to increase their SEO.
I was just wondering, if I fill all the blank spaces on my site with the search keywords I want it to show up for just repeated over and over in white text on white background so it's not visible, is that against the google rules or is that acceptable?

ok thanks
I hear they don't like backlinking anymore either
Any suggestions on SEO techniques that won't get my search rating removed then?
The page is not a commercial one and has not been monetised with adverts.
It's purely an educational website and I'm not just looking for links to make quick cash, so I want to make sure I don't raise my search rating only to have it taken off me

Most the SEO guides I can find give bad information. They teach you how to trick people into back linking your site etc.
This might work for monetised sites who can make some quick cash before their rating is removed, but I'm looking to get a high ranking then stay there

you won't get a high ranking by filling the blank space with 'hidden' key words (this is the bit that is 10-15 years old). you will be penalised for it.

ahh yeah see it was just something I read on an SEO guide.violet wrote:you won't get a high ranking by filling the blank space with 'hidden' key words (this is the bit that is 10-15 years old). you will be penalised for it.
I have no idea how search engine ranking works anymore.
It's not something I've ever had a purpose for, I have a few active websites but I've never submitted them them to a search engine before because they aren't monetised and don't need random traffic.
This time I'm building a page all about my experience in China with this particular school and problems with visa, false documents, police etc etc
I want it high in the rankings so that I can help anyone who gets offered a job by this place and googles the name
Real content relevant to what people search for. If your site ranks bad it's because nobody likes it. Anybody who claims otherwise is a lying scammer. Simple as that.GaryH wrote:Any suggestions on SEO techniques that won't get my search rating removed then?

Let me elaborate:
1. Google's PageRank algorithm is a company secret. It is not public knowledge. There is no "SEO consultant" who knows how it works yet every single one promises measurable results (because they are tech illiterates).
2. "SEO consultants" believe that by adding alt texts to images and using headlines they will boost ranking. They are wrong.
3. Nobody cares about websites that contain content that nobody cares about.
4. The more you search for a particular website the higher it will rank for you. "SEO consultants" use this to mislead customers.
5. Backlinks do matter, but unless you are getting them from high ranking sites (recognized media, Wikipedia, .edu tlds) you can forget it.
6. Google punishes sites that use methods like "search keywords I want it to show up for just repeated over and over in white text on white background". That's called "blackhat SEO". Punishment is permanent, no exceptions.
7. Sites that contain organic content relevant to what people search for will rank higher when searched for that particular content. Sites with ripped content or content that nobody cares about will not rank very well.
If you are looking for evidence to support that all "SEO consultants" and "online reputation management consultants" are full of shit go ahead and type "motherfucking website" into Google and click on the first result. The first ranking site, motherfuckingwebsite.com, does not contain a single image or a single alt text. Yet it ranks highest among over 765.000 results. Because people like it, that's why. Nobody is going to like and visit your spammish website filled with keywords written in white on a white background.

How does the amount of people that search something play into your ranking?
What I mean is, motherfucking website (I love your example haha) is not something a lot of people would search for, therefor it would be easier to get the top ranking? Where as "donald trump" would be something that gets millions of searches a day and therefor would be much much harder to get on the 1st page of results?
So if my website is about 1 particular company with a fairly unique name that I imaged gets little to know searches other than people who are thinking about working there and searching for it's reputation. Am I close? Or am I looking at it all wrong?
Sorry for my ignorance on this subject. I'm learning here

We will never know unless Google decides that they will give us the heart of their entire business: the PageRank algorithm. They would never do that. Our only hope is that one day Google will eat itself and then it will belong to the people (approx. 202.345.117 years from now).GaryH wrote:How does the amount of people that search something play into your ranking?
A lot of people search for motherfucking website. It gained lots of traction in tech circles because it's right, and it demonstrates being right beautifully without using a single image, CSS file or JavaScript other than inclusion of Google Analytics to measure hits.GaryH wrote:What I mean is, motherfucking website (I love your example haha) is not something a lot of people would search for, therefor it would be easier to get the top ranking? It's impossible to say without knowing the behaviour of people's searches related to the page and the popularity of the company. Basically you need to do market research and the best way to do so is by launching a prototype. Searching for an unpopular company will place that company highest because with unpopularity comes low to no competition. You could make a website called "GaryHssuperduperwebsite.com" and when somebody searches for "GaryH's superduper website" it will rank first, but nobody searches for that so it will never affect your traffic.GaryH wrote:So if my website is about 1 particular company with a fairly unique name that I imaged gets little to know searches other than people who are thinking about working there and searching for it's reputation.
