Windows 10 UI to Windows 7UI?

Seems I'm stuck with Windows NSA 10...if I can't have privacy, can I at least have it in a nice UI? Is it possible to run the Windows 7 UI on Windows 10?

Especially the side menu bar that pops up when you click on start..

I don't know of anything other than Classic Shell and that is what I would have recommended but you have already got there. I've been running that on my W8.1 laptop for nearly three years now. I couldn't tolerate the sheer fuckwittery of the W8 interface coming off my W7 machine.

I won't be going on to W10 when this laptop goes. I'll either uninstall 10 and clean install 7 or 8 with the Classic Shell on my next one or I'll bite the bullet and go Linux, which is what I have installed on my spare but seldom used laptop.

I configured a dual boot Win10 and Linux Mint 18 on my HP laptop several months ago thanks to a tip from Alexandra. Now the only thing I use Win10 for is my Excel finance workbook. Linux is great and a very stable OS.

To install Windows 7 on an UEFI laptop you need to go into BIOS (whatever it's called now) settings at boot and under UEFI/BIOS turn on "legacy" this will allow you to boot into a windows installer on USB (like you could before UEFI) and you're good to go.

Can't understand most of that but the basic SP is you can get Windows 10 off a laptop bought with it and stick 7 on instead?

I'd agree that Win 10 is actually the best Windows so far and the best OS out there.

Yes, you can buy a Win 10 machine and load Win 7 on it if you want. You'll need to buy a Win 7 key to have a legitimate copy so you'll end up paying for Windows twice (assuming the Win 10 was a legit copy).

I've read many posts on internet fora where people moan that the audio/video then gives them problems. I obviously don't want that to happen. Windows 10 itself is OK, way better than 8, but then XP is better than 8 imo.

I'd pay for genuine Windows 7 if the install /fix was guaranteed.

I don't feel comfortable having someone else being able to control / switch on/off at will something I paid for. If I can fix the privacy issue, I'm happy.

Hi Vlad,

You'll want to check if the laptop manufacturer has made Win 7 compatible drivers. If they haven't then yes, you could have issues like that.

There's a free app to stop the reporting that Win 10 does. Could be helpful if you can't be bothered finding and changing the settings yourself: http://bgr.com/2015/08/05/window-10-pri ... op-spying/
