Hi.
Just arrive in Phnom Penh. The WIFI available at my hotel is terrible. Looking for a 3G/4G Mobile plan for just 1 month. I will mainly stream movies, sports and US TV channels. Prefer good speed with minimal buffering.
In Thailand, I have a monthly plan having 30gb data and 4mbps speed for $6.00 Topup per month.
I checked Smart online. They have a $8.00 plan (Smart StreamOn). The website does not specify the mbps speed for this plan. Or maybe I missed it.
I googled Khmer440 forum, but not sure if those posted cellular plans are still active.
So my question is what cellular provider in Phnom Penh will give me a Prepaid plan similar to what I currently use in Thailand?
I,m willing to spend more if I can get better than 4 Mbps speed for under $20.00 per month w/o auto renewal.
Thanks
Tc.

The three main providers all have high speed internet packages on offer. It's pretty fast in the city now, where 4G has been rolled out just a few years ago. My neighbors here are using the Cellcard Big Love plan, at $8 pr.month

@newnewnewbie.
Thanks for the quick response.
4. Quick questions.
1. There's no mention of Big Love Mbps speed for this package.
Will it handle streaming movies, live TV?
2. Since I,m here for 1 month, I don't need auto renewal. Reading this forum, a member stated to enter #898#0# to cancel the auto renewal.
Will this work?
3. When I go to the Cellcard office, will they require my CCard to put additional funds in my balance besides the $8.00 TopUp?
4. Not to familiar with Sorya Mall shopping mall.
Do you know where exactly the office is located there?
Thanks.

Possibly, Cellcard claims to be 4G but its speeds suck. You could try Smart.tomx2 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 2:13 pm@newnewnewbie.

How about just trying out the code FfS!
They don't need any CC details from you, only your original passport.
Maybe 2nd floor, it ain't a big mall - just look for orange signage.

I'd say the quality varies a great deal with all providers.
My neighbor gets very fast speeds from Cellcard, but you
can't turn off their annoying promotions. Smart is very popular
and can be slow as well. Metfone is introducing 5G now,
I hardly use the phone these days, so can't say for sure which one
is the better option in your area.
Metfone has a few good deals on Youtube, and they have better
coverage outside the city afaik.

Contact the Phnom Penh Pop Up Shop.
They have some kind of open evening soon.
You can find them on facebook.

Yeah, or get a couple of of cheapo Huawei phones, and a sim from each company, that way you can find the best provider, and slander what you think is the most sucky one. Should be less than a few Benjamins in all.
Thanks for the responses.
Went to Sorya Mall and Smart hooked me up with StreamOn 8 plan. For $8.00 monthly, I get 80gb @4.5 speed. Speed is good. A little buffering at night(am).
Will use this plan specifically for watching NFL/College football the next 4 weeks and ocassional movies prior to returning to Thailand.
Now, I,m asking myself if this was the best plan for me.
Streaming live TV will consume up my account balance ($8.00) very quickly. Can someone give a novice (me) who has used Mobile Data sporadically what these cheaper plans are best used for?
In my case, what are the advantages of having a huge amt of GB's available, if I,m going to constantly Topup?
Would I be better off with a higher Topup fee($40.00) monthly?
I,m guessing I will consume 6GB total for 2 games this weekend.
But will need to Topup another $8.00 on Monday. So I will always be replenishing funds in my account, but I should never exceed the 80GB.

Just watch the National Lingerie League.
Nothing else matters.
Are you not better off getting Smart @Home for that level of data consumption? (https://www.smart.com.kh/get-smart/plans/smart-at-home/) - the premium service is $18/m 400GB usage,. Basic ($12) and Standard ($15) is 250GB.tomx2 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2019 4:12 pmThanks for the responses.

If it really must be on your mobile and you're moving around, then I suggest you top up using the SmartNas app, and using the SmartLuy payment method which doubles all of your quotas. It is a hidden gem.

@Spigzy
I did ask the Smart Rep about the Smart@Home plan.
They stated since I was staying at a hotel for only 4 weeks, I wouldn't be a good candidate for this plan.
I don't have my laptop. So Mobile is my only choice. Will look into Smartluy method. Thanks for the suggestion. Tc.

Ah sorry, in that case even the SmartLuy method to double quota is probably more hassle than it is worth. Even folks that have been here years on their telco don't use the self-care apps; scratch cards are still peak modernity, smh.
