What to do about a MacBook Pro that died
What to do about a MacBook Pro that died
It just died one day. Charges but won't open in any way.
PTC say it needs a new motherboard but they can't get it.
Is there anyone who can revive it?
Getting the info off it you can remove the hard drive and put it on a storage device?
Go easy on me, you wolves. This isn't one of my otherwise multiple areas of expertise.

Easy . Join forces with the hacked iPad guy and harass iOne's boss until it's properly fixed

Turn it off, put it in a cupboard somewhere, get drunk for a week and go back and try turning it on again.
Sometimes that works.

Bringing the news. You stay classy, nas, Cambodia.

There are a few shops inland who will do a better job at repairing an older Macbook,
than the major stores east of Monivong, but don't pin me up on the exact location.

Thanks.
At least they're inland and not at sea I suppose, given the inclement forecast for offshore regions.

Bury it in a burlap sack at a crossroads in the mountains at midnight on a full moon. Pay your dues to the thunder Gods with some roast piglets and firecrackers, and to the Saint Steve Jobs by dedicating an almond or a mung bean, that should satisfy him. Leave the area quickly, get back to civilization and buy a Dell XPS 13, it'll last for years and you can get it fixed anywhere.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

That's a good answer, Lucan, you terrible cunt
Dell is best?
Anything BUT Apple is best, contrary to popular belief (or the belief of some usually drunk Scotsman).
Sometimes the LCD backlight diode breaks making the monitor pitch black. When this happens shops are quick to tell you that you need a motherboard replacement because it’s the most expensive component.
Get somebody to check the backlight specifically. You may even see yourself if the computer starts but doesn’t light up the screen by looking closely at the screen when the computer is running. Use a flashlight.
Changing the backlight diode costs a few bucks while a motherboard replacement would be closer to a thousand bucks.

I had a similar problem 18 months ago and I took it here:
https://www.drmacbook.com/
It didn't need a new motherboard, it needed a new tiny chip or piece of a motherboard the size of a thumbnail. Cost me like $200, fixed in a day or two.
I recognize this may not be a convenient option for you right now but I figured I would share it.

Advice to all Apple fans - in case someone walks in on you when you’re wanking over your laptop, it's best to put some porn on the screen so you look normal.
