Where to go now Digi and OpenNet are forced to close?
On the WAN side I require a fixed address instead of a dynamic one. Speed/price are less important than stability/customer service.
Ezecom had a good reputation. But if I am correct it was partially French owned/run but recently sold to Chinese. If true, did this affect customer service/stability?
Possible options:
Ezecom - $29 a month, 50 Mbps, residential package
https://ezecom.com.kh/
Mekongnet - No price listed online
https://www.mekongnet.com.kh/
Online - No price listed online
https://online.com.kh/
Neocom - No price listed online, 1 year contract...
https://www.neocomisp.com/
Smart@Home offers a 4G/Wifi only connection which is less attractive to me than fibre.

I used to use Ezecom for years as it was by the far the best speed back in the day & reliable, albeit the most expensive. But once PP started seeing a boom in construction, I found their fibre was often cut by various roadworks, etc that it became a real annoyance (not Ezecom's fault ofc). Installation was also a painful process, the guys would often just drill a hole through a window frame or just leave a window open with a wire hanging through it - not the best.
Now I use a mixture of Smart @Home & tethering to a Smart or Cellcard 4g which actually has been sufficient for general home use - TV streaming, Zoom calls, etc. And the setup way easier - just get the device, turn it on, and off you go. Only caveat is checking your 4g signal beforehand, indoor coverage isn't so hot on Smart in some areas due to the frequency bands they have, so you might do better with Cellcard/Metfone in some situations. But honestly I rarely have issues with the two Smart connections I'm using daily.
If for a corporate environment, then an Ezecom primary/Online backup is a decent setup.

Since I'm on Opennet (luckily, my contract only lasts for another 4 weeks), also considering other options. I find it worrying that OpenNet has no official reaction to the very public threat made by the telecom authority. Even if they don't shut down next week, no way I'm going to sign up for another long contract.
I had a look at Smart@Home as you only have to pay for 2 months and then extend as you go. Safest bet I suppose, but yeah the 4G/Wifi and speed (top 10Mbps) put me off.
Was considering Sinet (https://www.sinet.com.kh/internet-solut ... -packages/), but was surprised to see Ezecom is cheaper. Always thought they were the most expensive ISP.

Do we really think Digi and Opennet are going to shutdown? The letter from the ministry gave them a week and that was dated over a week ago. If they are forced to close, I suspect the prospect of grabbing all those customers will be too good an opportunity to miss. (My Opennet connection is still running.)
@1984 From what I understand Digi customers have been transferred to Ezecom. So if that is true, then yes, they are being shutdown. In the past this has happened as well, mostly to small(er) providers. I am also still running but that might suddenly change coming week. We had to pay our bill this week so we paid only one month to limit our loss. Staff also have no idea what is going to happen.
@Phuket2006 Thanks, I was not aware some telco's also deliver fibre. Metfone is indeed long running. In Thailand I use True but never watched tv so switched over to 3BB.
@Spigzy: yes, it is a corporate environment but internet is not business critical.

Hm, this to me says: as a current customer you'll be taken to Ezecom (or maybe another ISP), just as happened with Digi and SingMeng.
Seems like a shakedown going on, and I wonder whether it's really related to tax debts, or something else.

I've been using Sinet for more than a year. Its fine. Never had a problem with speed. Customer service reply very fast.
It seems OpenNet are not allowed new customers nor can fix problems if they occur with existing customers, according to an article in Khmer Times:
“The building’s managers said OpenNet told them it could not fix a wiring problem until it received permission from the government.”
But what happens to the current customers and their connections? Still no word from OpenNet itself, although an industry expert in the same article says:
“Based on examples seen elsewhere, we do not expect OpenNet to suddenly stop operating.”

They seem to have gone belly up and customer accounts have been transferred to Ezecom. Service is spotty right now (BKK1 area) and I could not reach either Ezecom nor Opennet on the numbers listed on "another forum". I'll have a chat with Online to use as backup or go with Smart depending on the offer. The question for both Smart and Ezecom is: will the influx of customers have a negative impact on their service? Let's see if they can scale up fast enough....

Ezecom seemed to be a tad patchy over the past few days, mine never went down but speeds seemed to fluctuate.
Not a big issue for me, i’ll give them a couple of weeks to sort things out but if it continues like this then I’ll have a chat with them.
I’m on a (non advertised) Ezecom rate of around $16 per month for 30 Mbps, but I suspect that this offer may only be available for renewing customers. The cheapest I see on their publicity materials is $29.
TBH their customer service has been really excellent for the past few years - better than I would have expected to receive back home.

I was with Opnnent in the Daun Penh area. I lost service yesterday and Opennet was not contactable by phone, their app, etc. I couldn't get through to Ezecom customer service either but I'm bearing in mind they'll be swamped for a period. Service is back today with variable quality. As per the above post, I will give them some time to manage this transfer and see how it goes. I wonder what the cost will be when it comes time to pay up?
Thanks for the feedback. I assume Ezecom takes over the ASN/netblocks from Opennet. At the start of Opennet they were listed as Pakistan or Bangladesh. So it takes some time to show at services like speedtest.
As I have a fixed IP for a reason I hope all goes flawlessly. Well, I'll wait and see. I hope for those with advanced payments their credit will be used at Ezecom but who knows.... Once the news broke they had a debt to pay I started paying monthly. I forgot how this was handled when telco's went bust, like Mfone for example.
Oh yes, I also could not get through to Ezecom and suffer patchy service. Managed to get a hold of Opennet.

You only wrote that recently, but this page https://www.metfone.com.kh/en/registerftth says 17mbps is $30/month and 19mbps is $35/month.
Any idea why the prices are so different to yours?
I'm desperately trying to find a new ISP asap and it's hard to know what to choose between Ezecom (50mbps @ $29/month), MekongNet (20mbps @ $27/month), SiNet (expensive - 50mbps @ $36.67 per month) and maybe, since you're recommending them, Metfone.
Any advice, anyone, not just Phuket2006? Thanks. (I'm in Chbar Ampov).
